PS3 v. Xbox360

360 over PS3, because its cheaper and Sony is losing all of their exclusives because of sales which you can get on 360. Unless you're a fighting fan get a 360.

You are sort of correct

About a year ago they pulled the HD DVD player out of the elite and made it an accessory. So they old elites (like the one I have) have HD DVD the new ones don't.

Nope ^^, No 360 console has had an internal HD-DVD player (not even the elite). There was a HD-DVD addon for the 360, but it was external, and you had to plug it in to one of the USB ports.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xbox_360_hardware#DVD_storage

Early production runs of the Xbox 360 are equipped with a 12x DVD drive, capable of a maximum read rate of 15.85 MB/s.[8] The original production DVD drives were manufactured by both LG and Toshiba. Beginning in November 2006, a new model the BenQ VAD6038 was introduced, which is said to run faster than the previous models and, in addition, is much quieter.[8][9] There is a new drive by LiteOn[10], which as of June 2008 is not hackable[11].

Games are stored on standard dual-layer DVD-ROMs with 7 GB of usable space available for game content.[12] The option to apply a regional lockout to games is available to publishers, although DVD region codes are always enforced for movies. Microsoft has implemented methods to prevent hacking through the drive. Later drive models have the external debug triggering removed and black hard glue added to cover all the chip and controller pins.[13] The drive is able to read both DVD?R and DVD?RW in addition to being able to play DVD-Video out of the box, unlike its predecessor, which required the purchase of an add-on remote. The system is also capable of playing standard CDs along with CD-R/RW, CD-DA, CD-ROM XA, CD-Extra, WMA-CD, MP3-CD, and JPEG Photo CD.[14] Some users reported problems with the disc drive, as when a user changes the console's orientation, the inserted disc may brush against the drive's pickup assembly and incur scratches to it.[15] The users manual advises against changing the console's position while there is a disc in the drive. Other users report experiencing disc scratching during normal horizontal usage.

Announced at CES 2006 and first publicly shown at E3 2006, an external HD DVD drive was released in North America on November 7, 2006, for US$199.99, and in Japan on November 17, 2006, for ?19,800. In Europe, the HD DVD drive was released for €199.99/?129.99 in the UK, France, and Germany.[16] The HD DVD drive was bundled for a limited time with an Xbox 360 Universal Media Remote, as well as an HD DVD copy of Peter Jackson’s King Kong.[16] The drive plays HD DVD movies, although all Xbox 360 games will remain on the DVD format.[17] Microsoft has no plans to include an internal HD DVD player in future Xbox 360 designs.[18] The external drive connects to the Xbox 360 via USB and contains two integrated USB ports on the rear. Games can not be played on the HD-DVD drive.

Microsoft has since discontinued the HD-DVD add-on since the format was officially dropped by Toshiba. All remaining drives on store shelves have been drastically reduced in price by an average of US$50.00 to US$129.00 Some retailers have lowered it to as low as US$50.00 to clear it from their inventory.[19]

Oh, and to the topic creator, look at the the console exclusives, and choose the one with the most exclusives you like. ^^

I prefere neither... but the best would have to be a 360. Even though internetz costs some cash... the games are better and the controller is better... copy of the old school Dreamcast FTW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1111111111

well thanks for the advice everyone but I will probably get the PS3, this is due mainly to the fact that most of my friends have it and 3 years ago, I chose the classic Xbox over PS2 and regretted it. Its about $100 more expensive but I believe it's worth it, thanks again for the input:)

this is due mainly to the fact that most of my friends have it

The reason why you should get one in the first place, to play with your friends. And congrats on your decision.

And Sogeking, I did some more research and you're right. I fail and /bow to your knowledge of video game consoles.

Ps3 for the Graphics
Xbox360 for the Multiplayer
As for the games, it depends which exclusives you like best.

zomgz! I'm too late!
If you get this in time... buy a Wii... so much fun :D

get the xbox 360 elite
or the pro if you wanna save 1 or 2 hundred dollars.

the elite is just gorgeous with its black finish, but you would only need it if you plan on doing lots of online stuff.

fyi the ps3 almost 90% of the games are 780 and no 1080 if you are looking for better quality games x-box360 has almost all games out in 1080 only thing that the 360 lacks is the blue ray.

They're both practically the same, If you want to pay more initially and have Blu-Ray go PS3. If you want to pay less initially but have to subscribe to a far better online system then go 360.

Either way, upgrade your PC instead. You won't regret it.

Some elements to consider:

-Budget
-Friends (it's always ALWAYS nice to have people you know use the same console)
-Pay for service or not (XboxLive vs. PSN)
-Games that you want to play
-next-gen. interval (ie. I remember Microsoft is planned to shrink the new-gen. release cycle from traditional 6 years to 4 years, apparently with XBox 720)
-Hacking up

PS: I'm pretty sure 360 don't have blu-ray and will never have blu-ray; it's a rival product. I just read (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927406?sd=xbox) and it says that it doesn't support by console nor HD-DVD player. So if you want blu-ray, you probably have to stick with PS3.

I myself have a ps3 and i think its greaat. There are alot of games, littebigplanet

I would say PS3 cuz really good games are out and coming out. Blu-ray and i know online is a bit less good then Xbox BUT its getting WAY better and + its free! and HOME!!! lol

I'd have to go with xbox. While I think PS3 is the better system, I think the content for the 360 is just better (both the exclusive games, and the fact that live >> psn). The only caveat would be if you had a nice HDTV and wanted to watch blu-ray movies, that would probably tip the scales to the PS3.
