Or ftl.. whichever you see it as, so my quad core got a little hot.. ~70C and dried up my thermal paste pretty good




anyway it worked fine.. apparently my heatsink became detatched somehow and I didnt notice it until i look at my cpu temp

no damage but it still looks weird

ANYWAY whats a safe way to get that dried up paste off my cpu without damaging it, tissue paper or something?

good idea it worked but i had to do some scrubbing because the oil base stuff kinda "stuck" to the processor itself lol

I'd recommend buying ArctiClean: http://www.arcticsilver.com/arcticlean.htm.

Comes in 2 bottles, one emulsifies the thermal paste, the other purifies it. Put a few drops onto the IHS, wipe it off with a lint-free clothe.

Edit: Nvm, you already wiped it off. A proper cleaning solution would've been better.

Rubbing Alcohol

A bit of rubbing alcohol always does the trick for me.

How do you check your CPU temp?

Software monitoring would be easiest: CoreTemp or RealTemp should do the trick.

Having to drill a minute hole into the IHS, or deal with thermal diodes..not worth the effort unless you really want accurate readings.

Before reattaching your heatsink, be sure to completely clean the top of the CPU and the bottom of the heatsink with a very good quality isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol) and let it completely air dry.

Avoid using a paper towel. It often has lint and particles of dust embedded in it and often gives off some particles of paper (aka wood). Any of the new microfiber towels are excellent.
