problem with ping

Hi all

I have a great problem with latency (ping). While I'm playing CSS my latency is going up and down from 170-500 during the game. This does not happened while I'm playing DOD latency is always around 185 and it does not change during the game (which is OK according to my internet speed and config). I have check a lot of things and did defrag many times but nothing happened. DOD is working perfectly problem is only with CSS.

What are some of your netcode variables inside CS:S? Open up the console and type just the name of the commands below. It should tell you what it's currently set at.

cl_cmdrate
cl_interp
cl_updaterate
rate

Have you tried a traceroute to the server to see if you are just getting a bad connection to that server in particular? If you dont know how to do a traceroute, ummm, google it cause i dont really know either. And if that is the problem, im not quite sure if there is anything you can do about it.

But try rabid ewoks suggestion first to make sure its not just in game settings.

...and to go one step further: Type the same commands in DoD. Compare and contrast!

For future reference what fixed the problem for you. What kind of ping are you having now?

His ping is now around 185, but its steady with no spikes to 500
cl_cmdrate 30
cl_interp 0.03
cl_updaterate 20
rate 25000

And since we are playing from Europe 185 ping is gooooooooood

I am playing with
cl_cmdrate 60
cl_interp 0.03
cl_updaterate 66
rate 25000

and my ping is steady around 185 and when i change my settings like ROY have i don`t get lower ping any ideas how can i make my ping lower

Try running the command net_graph "3"

It starts a little graph so you can see your ping, choke, loss, etc. So this way you can look on the screen and see how things are running.

That looks good.


Are you getting any choke? I'm sure there could be a little bit if your overseas. Choke is bad so post if your getting any.
