I know I'm just a newbie in the whole sense of the word to eGO, and I'm not sure that this hasn't been brought up before but I would like to raise awareness of the ever growing popular way to get kills, Spawn camping.

I know that on some maps the place that you are trying to go is the spawn (Convoy to an extent) but on some maps, (Gold Rush) it is downright annoying at at how many demos/soldiers spawn camp on the final point. I was just playing on Gold Rush and the Blu team had a demo for each doorway opening on the top, making it impossible to get out of spawn and of course they won.

I was wondering if we could please make it against the rules to spawn camp, and the spawn camper be offered a warning and told not to do it again.

Again, I know this is way over my head being an =(e)=, and I'm completely new to eGO, but I am getting frustrated at how many times this has happened on the servers.

Thanks for reading what a noob has typed :D

actually spawn camping is against the rules except for certain maps deemed ok:D

Spawn camping is not against the rules in any way, unless the other team is firing weapons directly into the spawn room. As far as I know, this isn't possible in any of the maps we currently host. Orange X3 was the only exception that I've known of that we've ever hosted.
If the other team is camping OUTSIDE the doors, then you can build ubers inside, thus making it possible to break the camp.

In your example in the final point, this can be circumnavigated by a coordinated rush, using one person as bait, and the others rush in afterwards.

Stickies can also now be destroyed with bullets, making camping more difficult.

Ubers are also great.

It's frustrating, but not a game killer. Work together with your team and it'll seem like far less of a big deal.

As far as I know, this isn't possible in any of the maps we currently host.

actually when the doors open in Badwater Basin (not sure what the map is called) the demos can shoot stickies in there and if they get a crit it's a poor soul who will pay the price.
I was wondering what the policy is, and if we can enforce/create one. The amount of time I've been killed coming out of spawn is increasing and I thought that eGO should know.

Jack, it is easy to kill them once we find them, it's the finding them that is the killer. the first time people come out and there are some stickies on there the people being spawn camped will die then respawn 20 seconds later and team up against the spawn camper and kill him.

I'm sorry if I seem a little defensive, I don't mean to be. And I do not wish to argue with everyone here about something that is just a frustration.
Again, I am just a recruit with a suggestion, sorry if it seems a little out of place.

At least for dustbowl, the job of the red team is to spawn camp. I don't think it should be illegal because you can't do it forever and it takes skill to get to their spawn and camp it.

AWPerator explains it well-
Also, note there's a difference with "spawn camping" and "spawn control".
The idea of "spawn camping" is usually the idea of "spawn control"... spawn camping is when things actually get into the spawn room, which is a big no-no, spawn control is the whole killin' people just outside of spawn. It's allowed in a way that, hey, they can do it, you can do it too- it helps control teams if one team is doing too well go spawn control 'em (such as if no team scramble is in order), or like AWPerator said, work together and rush outta there. I think there's a sticky on this also... not sure. I mean I admit, it's not fun to deal with.
That's just my bit of what I learned and such, correct me if I'm wrong! :)
I really don't know if spawn control will be overruled... I'm pretty sure there was a large argument w/this in the first place of gettin' it to be legal...heh
Retribution, it's not a silly question either, it's interesting that it's brought up- feel free to ask things!

On eGO servers, spawn camping is considered a legitimate tactic. There are no rules against it.

The reasoning behind this is that any team that works well enough together should be able to overcome someone standing outside of their spawn. You have a supply cabinet with you that is going to keep you with full health and ammo, while they likely aren't going to have the same sort of access. You also have a constant supply of reinforcements as your team dies and goes back to the respawn with you. It's going to be very difficult for someone to keep a spawn completely blocked off. If a team isn't able to prevent spawn camping, they likely aren't working together well.

Not out of place at all. If you have a suggestion, these forums are the place to bring them up to be discussed. :)

Seems to me that Valve took a LOT of effort to make TF2 a very well-balanced game. And they didn't see fit to design away spawn control.

Some maps (Turbine, 2Fort, BlackMesa) darn near require spawn control to cap/win. And just how would we enforce a no-spawn camping rule? Let's look at BlackMesa; if BLU caps C then takes the most direct route to K, they must pass RED spawn. Currently you park a Hvy-Med combo there to prevent reinforcement while the rest of the team heads on to the last point. With a no camp rule, would BLU even be allowed to engage RED while in the corridor passing RED spawn?

I understand your frustration but I don't see a practical way to enforce such a rule.

Spawn Camping is totally different from spawn controlling.

Spawn Camping implies that you don't get a chance to do anything. When people are spawn controlling, you don't HAVE to leave the spawn doors. You're safe there to build up an uber or two, rush out and own some face. Spawn controlling is just like controlling any other place on the map, it's just closer to your entrance.

Okay, so it sounds like what they're doing isn't spawn camping but spawn controling, and I agree there are some maps where it is impossible not to do that (Dustbowl's offensive side). But after it happens to you when you're on defense a few times in the same round, it gets a little frustrating, especially if you're doing well and could have stopped the cart from capping/winning.

Okay, thanks a lot, you guys have been very informative and smart in ways to deal with it. Thanks! I'll see you guys in-game

gee i wounder why the hate you ._. i really dont like spawn camping/controling, i can see how that would be a stratigy to finish off a game (Blackmesa for ex.) but when its in mid game i find it annoying also.

Oh, and as a general rule of etiquette, excessive or needless spawn controlling, while perfectly legal, is unnecessary.

I mean, this one is just manners, or code of honor kinda thing. If the other team is getting curb stomped/steamrolled, there's no need to start rubbing it in their faces by killing them as soon as they step outside spawn.

Just use your gut people!

A little consideration can go a long way towards someone's gaming experience.

good mmo site!

I wish it was actually possible to keep spam here for long enough for someone to actually buy something from me, but I guess the forum mods are too good :(

Well, generally not complaining but the only problem I find with Blackmesa is the long narrow corridor out of the spawn room, but generally most people actually never figure out that you should wait for an uber or anything really, although 1 big push normally kills 'em all xD

Spawn camping is frustrating, but good team work can always beat a couple of individuals. I can never figure out why people won't see that. Strength in numbers. (if it scares governments, it obviously works, right?)

The other day I was playing on Blue as a demo. I managed to get inside Red base and camped their main spawn for a couple mins or so. I was actually tossing crit stickies INSIDE their spawn at one point, got a bunch of kills. :D.

Ok, this has went on long enough.

Short and sweet of it, Spawn controlling is legal. The only way it is deemed illegal is by the advisors or higher, and then we will let you guys know about it. Thanks.
