A version usefull add-on for firefox: NoScript, this disables all Javascripts on a site untill you aprove it, and thus should prevent any of these situations.

NoScript.net

Well the best thing to do is never click on links in a steam chat as to there's been eGO members in the past that have lost there accounts due to this steam message with a link in it.

In the last few days i have gotten a weird steam message from a couple or so CBR members saying the same think about checking out there profile but i never click on links in steam & who ever it was wasn't even on my friends list so i have no idea how they even pm-d me!

Yea, Another one, is
Hacker: Hey Dude, Check this sick compilation of pics I made of us playing their sweet
www . HackLink . com

It will take you to a page that looks exactly like youtube, and It will ask you to Download the newest version of flash player which = a keylogger

OK wow I cant beleive this is happening with steam too. The MMO I play FFXI has a BAD problem with RMT groups (real money traders) stealing accounts to sell off the gear for in game money so they can then turn around and sell it for real money. No script is a very useful (and annoying) add on for firefox. It is probably the best security tool for firefox IMO. I guess the best advice people can give. Dont give out your username and password to anyone, and dont click on those links.

Yup. I have something to add from this. I'm a member of the steam group Grand Theft Auto IV PC, and I recieved an incoming chat request from someone called 'Free Trial : Bot Automatic MSG'. Conversation below, websites removed.

And I do appriciate for the heads up guys. :)

I've got Zonealarm So take that hacker and i never ever click links only links i click are on here That's it!

By Default:
Never ever put any profile information into anything other than http:s systems when it comes to Steam, Valve, Credit Cards or other sensitive site networks (e.g. Online shopping).

Browsing:
Firefox3 has a strong security package and with the noscript addon you should be pretty much good to go. I'd seriously take the time to stress the point that people should look in the corners of your browser when hovering a link, it will typically tell you "where" it's going and if it looks foreign; google has amazing toolkits in their search engine to see what it is and where it may be a fake-phisher re-direct link to another network. Long story short; don't go to things that seem untrustworthy without a decent amount of know-how of the site. I know this sounds like the whole "Don't trust strangers with candy", but these days you really have no idea if even your best friend has become a zombiebot for some network.

Linksets:
Tinyurls has features that show the link of the site and gives the source information (if you know how to read it) before you load the site, so you can get a general idea of whether or not the thing is a info phisher or may potentially house malicious code.

If any of you get into a situation like this, or just need general tech-assist guru. Feel free to send me a PM here and I'll be sure to reply.

As for the situation with Razzle. So long as he has a record of the purchases made. He may very well require a FAX-able receipt w/ License/ID, or something of the like. I'm uncertain as to valves methodology when it comes to legal suit for customers. I'm rather sure that Valve will do something along the lines of reimbursing the new CDK so that his stolen things will become voided and hopefully he'll be able to retain normal play.

Old thread, let it die, and come on guys, you know already not to enter your password into any site for any reason, if you lose your account because of this its your own fault not checking up on the site.

Post dead, I vote lock
