Malware Removal - Viruses/Spyware/Adware

Sorry to bump an old thread, but, I do have AVG and SuperAntiSpyware. Super is the BEST anti-spyware that i have used HANDS DOWN. Good tutorials and recomendations also. Thanks alot!
 
For the spyware/adware/rootkits/virus's that are stubborn and you can't seem to get removed with those other programs. Try this program. It's EXTREMELY effective and I have found that every computer I've used it on, it has worked.

Now on a side note, I do not advise you use this as your first line of offense. Try the other programs first and see if they can resolve your problem. The reason for me saying this is because this program, while effective, can sometimes cause problems and if you're not technically savvy, chances are you won't know how to fix them. But at the same time, I've never had any problem with the program. Every time I have used it, it has worked as it was supposed to.

Don't forget these other helpful tools.

Spywareblaster: Adds restrictions to hosts file and internet settings to stop malware.

ncleaner: A free tool to clean your system and registry of junk, and also fixes a LOT of Windows security flaws.

TuneXP: Not really malware related, but the tools in this device have proven very helpful to me. Fixes a lot of Windows settings to make your computer boot faster, respond quicker, and defrag better.

A-Squared Free- A free scanner designed to hunt malware, trojans, worms, and the like. VERY helpful.

filehippo.com's Update Checker- Makes sure your installed programs are the latest version. Lets you download updated versions quickly and easily.
 
If you have McAfee, I suggest getting rid of that and using one of these such as AVG free 8.5 here is a link: http://free.avg.com/ McAfee can let some virus get through such as trojan viruses. Also today another person on the site got 4 trojans while using McAfee I gave a link to AVG Free and now they are using that.
 
Some people have had problems with AVG and Steam games (myself included) It is listed on the steam support sight as a program that may cause problems. https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=5034-EIPV-6426


I switch to Avast and it works great.
Avast is free and a really good anti-virus
Also if you have Vista or Win7 you can use Windows Bitdefender. as an anti spyware solution.

Both of these programs have real time protection included for free. That is a huge plus for me.
 
1st-off, EXCELLENT guide!! I run a lucrative computer business and have seen quite a number of computers come across my bench from so-called computer techs. Know how the system works, and where things hide such as system-restore areas! Disable Win-restore....1st-rate advice!

Suggestion preface: I realize my issue is with a software choice and to each, his own.

Only suggestion: I used AVG for a long time simply because it worked, and worked well. Yes, the past-tense is on purpose. Late 2008 AVG added a time-delay to their heuristics scanner updates. Meaning, simply, it catches some things a bit late. This led to a virus intrusion of my systems. (In AVG's defense, my $3,000USD+ Cisco Intrusion Prevention System failed to catch it as well.) My solution was speaking with a few friends from Australia, London, and Germany. What better way to see what's out there than ask those on the front-lines? Their suggestion (unanimous) was Avira Antivir. It is available at free-av.com. I will warn you, however, that it has a once-a-day pop-up asking you to buy the "full-version". There is no difference in the protection only in the support available as far as virii are concerned.

If you are having trouble using AVG, I would suggest trying Avira's antivir. It's not too shabby.


Moral: If one anti-virus program isn't doing the trick, try a few others or ask a friend what they use.

NOTE* -Never install 2 anti-viral programs on the same machine. Best-case one will override the other. Most times it results in one program preventing the other from affecting a viral file, hence, negating it's usefulness.*

uses low resources and is one of the best : )

Few things you should know about Malware today. Over 5000 new samples come out daily "This is spyware and viruses"

Most viruses today try to remain hidden on your PC and log information to feed an outside source. So the day of having a box screaming at you about a virus are gone.

This software includes Web Threat protection. What this meens is you have a small proxy service running on your machine, and when your PC goes out on port 80 "Web Traffic" it does a quick check on where you are going, then decides if you should load that page or not.

This is kind of like content filtering but with a few important differences. #1 this will not block adult sites "porn if you will" you can surf playboy all day and this wont block you. This is because playboy does not send out viruses and spyware so far. #2 this is more aggressivly updated then a normal content filter.

So the reason I bring this up is, once you clean your PC you need to invest in protecting it from the new infection. Web Threat protection makes it so you just get far far far fewer viruses in the first place. Also one license of this software will work on 3 home PC's. So for 50 bucks I protect 3 of my 5 home PC's.

I too am a Norton convert........I know trendmicro and Norton aren't free, but, the old addage you get what you pay for is sometimes true. I've had several instances in the past where Norton detected something, and either could not quarantine or clean the item. I disabled norton, yes, there will be pop up hell to pay for this, and downloaded trend micro. It found what norton did, plus some other gobbledy gook norton did not, and removed it all. I'm using the latest trendmicro, internet security pro 2010 edition. However, I have heard good things about the latest norton, previous versions worked so-so and seemed to be resource hogs as well. Trend seems to have a smaller footprint and faster scan times............I also hear good things about zone alarm.......but, am happy with trend and staying with it until it breaks.

Avast! Antivirus

SpyBot Search&Destroy is a useful, manual program that finds and removes virus + spyware.

Avast! Antivirus is a very useful background program that detects when a malicious program is active/running on your computer. It gives you the options to set the quality of protection: Low, or high. Even with High setting on, you can play games and fast speeds. Useful when surfing the internet.

I use AVG, Windows Defender, And Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to keep my pc working :P
 
Comodo Internet security :D it has a firewall and anti-virus and defense +
