Q6600. Buy a Xigmatek HDT S1283 or a TRUE 120. Increase the volts ever so slightly, and you can overclock it from 2.4 to ~3.0 - 3.6. Google for the countless reviews available on the Q6600, you'll be hard pressed to find a person who wasn't impressed by this CPU. :)

yeah the Q6600 is by far the best for overclocking. sorry you amd fans but if youre gonna overclock dont even consider amd.

in terms of board, i know foxconn has extremely good overclocking boards. the foxconn blackops would be a good buy.

evga also makes very nice boards for overclocking along with asus, but i dont know your price range so i wont list any here.

good luck

Indeed I've got AMD, and I cant even think of overclocking just a bit :(

Q6600 is the best Quad Core for the money, while the E8400 is the best dual core for the money. You can get the Q6600 up to around 3.4Ghz on air if you get the right cooler, while the E8400 can do 4Ghz+ on air with the same cooler. If you're doing photoshop, though, the Q6600 is your best bet.

I will vouch for this board. I purchased its non-Crossfire sibling, and it is rock solid with an E8400 @ 3.9Ghz 24/7. It's not the fanciest motherboard on the market, but if you're looking for reliability with a good set of features, this is the board to get. :)

my suggestion is an i7 overclockablity up to about 4 GHz at 300 a bit expensive but well worth it

Although AMD CPUs aren't the greatest for OCing, they still are OCable... :(

I've gotten mine up 0.2 GHz with a slight voltage increase. I've known people that have gotten an entry-level dual core CPU up 1 GHz on air.

Extremely expensive.

My suggestion stands, Q6600 and a Gigabyte P35 DS3L.

Get them Q6600s before they are discontinued.

Yep, the g0 Stepping q6600 is a great chip for sure. Intel P35 based motherboards seem to get good stable overclocks, but 3Ghz is attainable on pretty much anything by bumping the FSB to 333.

Ill stand by teh phenom !!

im running phenom II on air and getting a 1.2 ghz OC , amd is back in the game , admit it , and benchmark wise , sorry i7 users i score like riiight behind the i7 extreme and i only paid 220 for my cpu :) oh and i beat i7 extreme in all latency tests

Woah woah woah hold on here.
Phenom II's can OC way higher than i7's what are you guys talking about?
And you can't really compare the two because their not even in the same league. The top i7 is around $1000 bucks while the top Phenom two is around $230.

Compare the Phenom II's to the Core 2 Quad's.

Your wrong i run a phenom II and my little 237.00 processor benchmarks the same and even better on some tests , hate to tell ya man , but amd did something right this time
