PC Building/Upgrading Tutorial

Wow, nice find. Perfect for any one looking to build himself a computer. And oh course, if you do decide to build one, we are always here to answer questions. :)

ya i just finished readin most of it & am very impressed w/ the link, great find there sixsicsix!! once my video card comes in, im gonna install my 600w psu as well as my new heatsink & oc my cpu as well.
 
nice, will be useful for me, i have been slowly updating my computer from its stocked items that it came with XD. since i cant put 4gb into my comp, i have to buy a new motherboard :( to old :p

quick question, when i change my motherboard, i dont need to do anything else but switch over all my ram, dvd drives, hard drives , etc right? i dont need to install anything because everything is already on my hard drive right? silly question, but i need to know just to make sure XD first time building a rig :p
 
Actually changing the hardware (new mobo) would require you to reactivate Windows, which is a pain. I would format and reinstall :P
 
o damn :( and i just reinstalled >.<

is there a way where i dont need too? because redoing all the updates is a pain, and one time i couldnt even get sp1 update because something went wrong during the install, then i had to reinstall it again lol. so i just want to know if there is any chance i dont need to?

unfortunately not (microsoft needs 2 fix it 2 where it overrides the whole "reinstalling" bit if you get a new motherboard cause i had the same issue when i got my current gigabyte motherboard) what i would suggest is getting a motherboard that you know will last ya at least 5 years (most boards last longer than that) but 5 years for safety sake esp since technology gets outdated every year. w/ the i7 cpu for intel out, im sure that dual core technology will be out the window in like 2 years (minimum). i would say, whatever os u have, make sure u have the cd key for that os, that way if u have the disk, then ur good, just simply reinstall windows on the drive. also, if u use xp, make sure u have a disk that has sp2 on it, that way theres not a limit on how much a single partition can hold (like sp1 does).
 
bah, i have windows, and i plan on getting a quad core last after i have my tower, motherboard, ram, and new dvd or blu ray driver. thanks for the heads up, guess a reinstall is the only thing :(

ps: pillar, PLEASE TAKE OFF THAT AVATAR!!!!, IT BURNS MY EYES!!!!!! ROFLLLLLLLL j/k dont take it off, but it does make my eyes go funny LOL thanks for the help.
