Gaming Mouse, Opinions Please.

Hey gang. It's almost time for me to replace my gaming mouse again, and I thought I'd ask for some FPS gamer opinions. As some of you know, I'm pretty new to the FPS scene, but I'm a long time MMO player (about 15years now).

I've used 3 different types of input devices for the right hand over the years. First I was using the Microsoft Trackball Explorer. In all honesty, I'd still be using one but MS doesn't make them anymore and I'm not about to pay 250+ for one on ebay, USED. (Yes, it's called a "track"ball, but it's not anything like your typical trackball)

When MS stopped making those, I had to go through the process of getting used to a normal, move your hand around, kind of mouse. I've been using the Logitech "G" series, and currently use the G9. I was going to purchase another one, but as I said before, I wonder if perhaps I should think outside my norm and go with something else....

Any of you guys have any that just "blow your mind", or "can't live without" kinda thing? Also, I've been eye-balling the n52te, any feedback on those?

imo the G5 by Logitech is still the best gaming mouse out there, razor also makes good mouses, but my G5 has been through hell and has lasted since they came out. VERY durable and was worth the money i paid for it

Yea, I still have my G5. I'm not replacing due to poor performance, or anything like that. I just swap out a new mouse every 6-8months, and hand down to the Nephews, Nieces, or younger siblings. (I'm 34, and I have a 19, and 22yo little brothers).

I guess the question came up because I was talking with Iceman earlier, and he made it sound like there were better mice out there to game with. I can read add, after add, and review after review, but in the end they all sound like they're either paid to be good, or bad because they aren't.

I use the logitech MX518, been using it for couple of months now, great mouse, it has a 1800-dpi resolution, with software to adjust it to lower settings, and 8 buttons. its been awesome!!

I just thought of something, at the BX we got some trackball mouses from warehouse that they found, i think they are like 20 bucks. ill pick one up if you want and mail it to ya

If it's a Microsoft "TRACKBALL EXPLORER", I'll take 2 or 3 of them, lol.

Those things are impossible to find anymore. Any other trackball I really can't stand. The Trackball Explorer was unique in it's design. Here is a pic of it:

Well, Yes, it is classified as a trackball. The way you hold it though... your hand basically rests on it, your middle / forefinger are used to move the "ball". Your pinky, and next finger are used for the two keys to the right while your thumb is for the two buttons there, and the mouse wheel. It may "sound" odd, but once you get used to this thing, going back to a mouse in literally painful.

I've tried all the trackballs where the ball is off to one side, and just don't like them, at all. I've tried the square based ones as well, and can't stand those either. This particular model is the ONLY trackball design I will ever be able to use, willingly.

I've tried that one too. Can't stand it. It's MUCH smaller than the Explorer.

I was thinking of getting a gaming mouse too, the Voodoo DeathAdder. Does anyone have a recommendations or opinions of whether or not it would be worth buying.

After a deeper investigation, as of right now, I'm going to go with this mouse. It's performance specs, and design look flawless.

Hey Stubster, Yea, I've tried those as well. For me, it's just not comfortable using the "ball" off to either side like that. To each their own though, right?

It's still possible to "get" a Trackball Explorer, like Angeal posted above... but if you look at the link, the minimum price is 250... for a mouse... I can live with a normal mouse at those costs. The ironic thing is, they didn't sell well when they WERE making them. Go figure.

im a big razer fan i have the lachesis and i love it and my roomate has the copperhead which is a little smaller but just as nice

My my... stay with the G9.
I've used the G5/G7, the Razer Copperhead, Death Adder, Diamondback, and Lachesis. None of them compare to the G9 once you get used to it, the precision grip feels absolutely amazing.
But if you don't use the "claw" style... I guess something a little more ergonomic would be necessary.
