PLEASE READ: STEAM FRIENDS HACKER.

i do not trust steam friends. there have been too many stories of attempted hacks. advice: stick to xfire and only add people that you know.

I'll try this one time and then its up to people to decide if they want to leave the cave...

But on Steam they have a beta for Steam Communites. If someone sends you an invite to join a community and you're not in the beta the invite says its from "unknown".

So, if you want to join the beta, when you log into steam look on the main page for a button, about 2/3s down that says something like "Join beta." I'm not at home so I can't recall exactly where it is, etc...

But, the point is, no one is hacking you. And, if you join the beta the invites will work correctly.

Good luck.

Aww... why'd you have to go and say that? I was gonna be the one to show them the light last night but I couldn't get any webpages to load. You've stolen my personal glory, Shane. This is the only kind of thing I have left to live for.

SO BEWARE!, i think he did manage to hack me though, because everytime im afk for like 20 mins or more, he (if he hacked me)logs me out of my freakin logon on my pc!

Come on Foodsplitter, tell them the truth. You don't want me to do it, do you?

@YooHoo, at least you read my post. Even after I posted it people are still saying "OMG thx for the warning!" ;)

Dude, do you actually think I'm making this up?

It's not that you're making this up, it's that some of the facts are a bit off. Someone apparently named '[unknown]' isn't necessarily a hacker, it's just that the hacker is probably abusing the flaws in the beta.

Well said. For example, say they're setting up an invite-only eGO steam community. If you're not in the beta and, say, kendle sends you an invite, it will appear to from <unknown>, so you dismiss it because OMG ITS A HAXXOR and then you won't be in the group.

But, even if there is an exploit here, being in the beta will at least let you see the real nature of the invite. I have a feeling this is a user-error issue, at the end of the day.

Well. Ok then. Then there is aboslutely no way to tell who the hacker is. I'm not accepting anyone that I don't add myself.

speak of the devil, he's trying to add me right now. Is there a way to permanently block a friends' request from someone?

He might not be he, he could be from eGO, it is clear Unknown is not Unknown but a beta user.

ive been on several other servers that are protect by steam bans. and all i know is that a guy named unknown tries to enter the server and i says hes been banned from by steam so i think this guys is a big time hacker and he is still finding ways into steam
