We were having a very interesting discussion in Vent today. Chickens eat hay. Chickens eat grains and vegetables and hay is a grainy kinda veggie thing. So chickens eat hay!

I even found it on the internet to back me up. Sloppie, Buga, and stick don't agree. Please let them know they are wrong. Here is my proof: http://www.thebungalo.net/purpleisright/chickens.html

No. Hay and straw is used for ground cover and absorbing droppings. The chickens will scratch and search the hay for bugs and errant seeds. They do not eat it.

Where you going to share the interesting part with us?

Although your reasoning here is flawless, I can't agree with either of the poll choices. Seeing as hay is pretty common where most chickens are likely to feed, chickens do inadvertently eat hay/straw occasionally. To say they love it seems like a bit of a fabrication to me though. In fact, hay can get stuck in their crop and be potentially fatal.

Where's the poll option for, "I don't care what the chickens are eating?"

NO! They do not! I have confirmed this from the sources of D.A.R.T.H!
