Windows 7 Beta January 9

i guess money is not really a problem,but its cheaper to build your own, i think its fun but even if have that kind of money, i dont think i would buy that one :/

Yeah i like custom Pc that way you can see what go's in it and you get really what you want, Not cheap stuff, My dad used to have this pc he Made this pc from Random parts and i love it

I'd like to see you build the computer I linked for that price. Dating back to 1998, I've owned 3 computers, including the current one, so I make them last.

Having built 2 comps, plus multiple upgrades, I like to see what goes in it too. But let me say, the good stuff isn't always all that. The off-the-shelf generic brand comp I bought in 1998 sucked, but it never broke down. I built the early Athlon system in 2000-01 timeframe. It was unstable, went thru 2 name-brand vid cards (1 ATI, 1 NVIDIA), 1 sound card, and in late 03 the MSI POS motherboard finally went. My P4 I built when I gave up on the Athlon, but the ABIT POS motherboard died after less than 2 years. The ASUS mboard I replaced it with has run perfect. Last summer, the NVIDIA vid card (6600GT AGP) finally lost its fan. I upgraded the CPU to the 3 GHz last spring, replaced the vid card (limited to AGP) and upgraded RAM, but now it's time to spring for a new comp. Plus, I'll always upgrade in the future, when prices are much cheaper, and make this sucker last. So while expensive today, it's in it for the long haul.

At least it appears ATI has their 3650 and 3850 cards for the AGP slot. Should help a little, but if you're like me, you are probably mostly CPU-limited.

tell me how it is guys, if good reviews, ill switch over, vista is not that bad, but thats just me XD

vista IS that bad and also - man is it evil. when i bought this mediocre dell with vista 2 years ago (building my new pc ONLINE - no final date buy yet) and woooo! so many problems right out of the box!
1 - the USB wireless network card i bought WITH the pc stated it was vista ready etc. CRAP! now it works but says it isnt made for vista. (obvious false advertising right?)
2 - the "old" PCI network card refused to work with vista altogether.
3 - several programs refused to work with vista: simpsons' hit & run, scarface, tony hawk's american wasteland, visual basic (whatever was the version), MICROSOFT picture it! - all very disturbing and there's probably some that i forgot.
reinstalled xp (while REFORMATTING!) - everything worked well! and i mean everything. now i got vista again - and still problems... but at least after SP1 it works without BSODs.

guys i got this pc and run it every day. should i get the beta you think? seems interesting. right now i'm running vista relatively well. (i really have to place to backup absolutely everything - about 52GB of personal stuff - installing the 7 did u have to do a clean install? or can u "upgrade"?) should i back the things up before playing with the 7?

I've got Windows 7 beta running as a third partition on my Q6700 (stock clocks) with a 9600 GSO... visually it looks nice and I haven't encountered many bugs so far. And Far Cry 2 gets at least 10 FPS better using Windows 7 and DX10 (vs using XP and DX9). Not to mention the system runs about 4 or 5 degrees cooler on average. Thumbs up so far.

Windows 7 looks like a modified Vista. I'm downloading the demo for sure, but if it doesn't impress me, I might forever switch to Linux.

I don't expect everything to run smoothly, but I want it to work nicer. Useful features, ya know? Anyway, it better be pretty impressive or it won't be worth my money to go from Vista to Windows 7.

Linux is better for everything BUT games That is the single thing that keeps me on windows. For file management NOTHING beats the console for shear power and simplicity.

Hm...so far I'm really liking Windows 7. Oddly enough my avg fps on DOD:S went from ~30 to ~60 all the time XD I attempt to overclock my video card and it says it drops back down to nearly 100 everything which is odd. So far it has my approval XD

Theres load of bugs and compatability issues in the 64 bit version. However, most are easy to fix, and not a big deal. It is a beta after all, but it's not as perfect as everyone is making it out to be. Its better than Vista and XP imo though.
