vista network password?

hello fellow eGo's! how are you?

i am sitting on a home wireless network giving me the internet and several other pc's. NOW i can see them and they can see me. (i share family photos among my pc's) - here's the clincher. when i check out MY pc from THEIR computer, i get the password window. (they dont have a password so i can give/take stuff from them ok). my question is - i didnt create any passwords from the time i installed vista. what is the default network pasword and how do i edit it?

There is no default password. It just boots into Vista right?

Give your self a password on the vista machine. When they connect try your vista ID + password. If that does not work then we have some tweaking to do. Also, make sure you have file sharing enabled in the "Network and Sharing Center".

To make things really easy you could just enable "Public Folder Sharing" in the "Network and Sharing Center" and dump everything you want to share in the public folder. That should work.

BTW, access the "Network and Sharing Center" in the control panel. Let us know how it goes.

okay here we go - in the network sharing center (under folder sharing) i have 3 options: allow sharing, allow changing/editing files (without password), do not allow anything. (i cant beleive i didnt see this before). if i change to allow everything without a password, i think im in buisness. BUT (since i hate things bugging me) what is a network password and how do i change it?

no - that was apparently a joke idk - i changed the option from others can see me - to - see me and change w/o a password

in network center it still says "password required" to change/view files/folders. and wtf is that password!? am i thick?

You need to login using an Admin user. if your account is an admin, use your account name and password to login. If the system trying to get the share files is XP you might have some issues getting to it. Unless microsoft released an update for that, not sure.

#1 - i am admin of my pc.
#2 - i do NOT have any login password. and there's only one account
#3 - everyone can SEE me but cannot open my pc on network.

Goto a computer that you are trying to get the shared folder, goto start >> run type in "\\computername" should ask for a user and pass. just type in the username and hit ok. If it saids it cant find the computer then its the vista <> xp issue. Vista can get XP shared files, but not other way without installing something.
