ping limit?

Do you think a ping limit should be added to the servers?

Personally, I think they should add one. I hate being completely behind cover then killed by someone with 180+ ping.

High Pingers are giving me the Lag!
This is blatantly untrue. High ping players joining a server may give a momentary ping spike, but once they are on the server, as annoying as it may be to see them warping about or running into walls, their ping does not impact directly on your ping in any significant way. The server allocates a maximum capped amount of bandwidth to each individual so again a player with a higher ping cannot draw more bandwidth than anyone else. The server doesn't slow down to provide data at a slower rate for dial uppers for example. If you look at your Ping and see that it is relatively low (i.e. below 200ms) then any lag you experience is because of graphical slowdown. If you're experiencing warping, that's packet loss and due to the server. If your ping is extremely high, and/or those of other players suddenly become quite high, then you may have a valid point in saying the server is laggy. However once again, this is not due to high ping individuals, since they cannot force a server to lag out. Note that virtually any time large numbers of people join/leave a server you will experience brief moments of ping spikes.

I dont really thing we should have ping limits.... Sometimes my connection lags and my ping goes up to 900+ but it will come back down in about 30 secs or less.... If we are going to have a ping limit I would be kick out of the server by then and that's not going to be cool.... SO NO PING LIMIT......

Someone with high ping will sort of only bother themselves and not other players I think...

So far for me, I didn't have any trouble with ping when there were people with over 200.

Unless everybody experiences major lag then I wouldn't really bother about this.

ping is the time someone pc talk to the server and back if you are on there isp in that persons house using their ip you will lag'

all others who are not using that persons ip (aka everyone else in the server) will not lag on the server

your ping is your own. server lag is due to the servers provider and or the server its self.

your lag is due to your provider and or your pc.


now if the server gets overloaded where someones setting arnt right and it would have to be totally way off you might get lag due to the servers processors trying to sort stuff out. but even then you trully wont see anything.

there are morons in this world that overload the servers on purpose. ie server crashers and hacking clans. all are asshats and will be removed from the servers as quick as possible.

so no we dont need a ping limit.
players that warp around becuz their ping sucks so bad. guess what 90% off the time the screen is frozen on their from the gaps of of communication to and from the server. so as they pop up on your screen the are seeing you for the frst time too.

I have been having horrible problems with Comcast -- sometimes my ping shoots up to 300. It's not my PC, I have run tracert and can see it is a problem a few hops up from my router.

Anyway, I have had some years of experience running HL1/HL2/DOD/DODS servers, and it is a bit of an old wives tale that players with high ping lag the server. They lag themselves, they warp around, etc... but they don't lag out the server. Just FYI.

Anyways, I appreciate the present policy as it allows me to play even when my connection is bad.

On a related topic.... When my comcast cable connection gets really laggy, I will often switch over to my Sprint wireless broadband card and router (which I have for work for emergencies), and I get a better ping on that then Comcast Premium connection. Isn't that just bizarre?

All I can say is learn to play the game and the high pingers wont bother you.
You can lag on low ping servers just as easy on a high ping server.

im saying no ..because we have ppl in the clan and others all over the world so some may have a higher ping then others.and it might cause a problem with server rankings cause of ppl getting kick of high ping

Other players ping doesnt cause u to lag or doesnt harm ur gameplay..
If ur good u wont blame the ping Jokin m8..
I play with a 280-300 ping and so many guys in eGO are frm Europe or Asia too.. so its a "NO" frm me..cos it would mean no eGO and that would really drive me crazy
