The guy completely hacked my friends computer through this link he had control of everything and he got into his paypal his vent admin, website admin, and server admin and screwed with them all! He was sitting there messaging my friend through a notepad on his desktop!
 
another thing to watch out for is dont go to websites claiming to give you CS:S stats unles sits .com or .ca or .org ect, only the main obvious ones. old clan mates got their account taken from an odd .something.

Sorry but I have trouble feeling sympathy for when this happens.
Its common sense majority of the time, just..

Beware of these things​
  • Unneeded links - why would somebody send a link for you to log on to the steam community site, everybody knows the URL, its unesscary.
  • Unusual .com's - stuff like .co.cc are often used for phishing/fake websites because you can give it a simliar URL. (ex. ego'swebsite.co.cc)
  • People you dont know - If some random person walks up to you on the street and says "here try this" why on earth would you? So when somebody you dont know, never met, adds you outta the blue and says hey check this link out. WHY WOULD YOU?!
  • Bad stuff - If your looking for something thats goes against some set of rules or is illegal, your getting it from sketchy people in the first place, so dont be surpised when you download CssHacks.exe and find that you computer just got KA-PWNED. Its called karma.
  • Updates - (this somewhat falls in line with the first one) Plug-ins typically tell you if a new update has been released or you'll find out when attempt to use it and it says "this program requires flash player 9, download it here". Dont trust other peoples links, find things out on your own.

I really hope this helps some of you, so tired of reading these stories about people falling for this crud when it could easily be avoided.

The firewall was useless, because that little 45kb program that he downloaded was a keylogger. It registered every keystroke he made and sent it back to the person who owns it. If you allow a keylogger to get your password, everything you type your password into afterwards is theirs. The thief was probably writing in notepad through Remote Desktop, using the password he took from their login (or he's using xp and the admin password didn't exits).

So, if you find out something suspicious like this has happened, pull your internet and work on it from elsewhere until you figure it out.
 
Watch out for thngs like this on bebo/facebook/myspace when watching a video, I nearly downloaded a virus from bebo because someone hacked a video and my friend. Thats why I dont use any of these sites any more.
 
Yes, a common delivery method for all sorts of malware these days comes in the form of Adobe Flash updates or supposed flash codec updates. Welcome to the internet. :/

Just be careful and think before you click "yes" to install something.
 
Yea my friend isnt too computer savvy and I know him and the guy that hacked him irl so we will clear this up.
 
Yeah, good heads up, but doesn't Windows Vista have some-type of security to tell you if this file is genuine and from Adobe? Sorta like when you install new Nvidia drivers Windows will say its WHQL verified through Microsoft?
 
he doesnt have vista lol but yes its called Data Execution Prevention which disables viruses from executing from an innocent looking program
 
this is why i never accept links even if it is my freinds just dont open them have a trick question to ask them to make sure they are who they say they are...like How long have i been in eGO? something like that i stopped a hacker from taking my account by doing this! it works!
 
Why do hackers do this kind of stuff?! Are they out to rule the world by means of steam accounts?!?! They need to pick up a hobby... maybe knitting, or music.

They do it to enlargen their E-peen.... Seriously.. Most of them aren't even "Hackers" but they are kids using programs or codes written by REAL hackers, it's a kind of a "toy" for kiddos thinking they are funny and everything in the world, just like aimbotters and wallers.

A real hacker won't bother with steam accounts... They would hack steam entirely immidiatly.. xD
