Current 2ms LCD's

ok so I am still using the old trusty CRT 19"
well I love the picture but hate the amount of space it takes up
so for all you clan members that are using a LCD 19' to 24"
please help me out I'm worried about ghosting in games
does any of ure guys and gals LCD ghost or are you having any
problems that would be helpful for me to know about before I buy one?

I have a 6ms P-MVA panel monitor, which are supposedly slower and not quite as good for gaming as most TN panel monitors and I personally dont notice any ghosting while gaming. I think in all honesty, most recent monitors will provide you with good gaming performance. You also have to be careful, because some of those 2ms monitors might be using overdrive, which can in fact cause halos around certain on screen items.

I would say, pick a monitor you like, then do your research and find out what others have said about that particular monitor.

Also, the monitor you linked to is 16:9, which means it should be slightly better for movies, but you will lose a small amount of screen real estate compared with an equal size 16:10 monitor. But, the reviews on newegg look good and its probably a good monitor, Again go try and find some reviews where actual reviewers have put it through its paces.

EDIT: sorry, at that size, you will actually have more screen real estate since thats a full 1080p (1920x1080) as opposed to most 20-22" monitors are only 1680x1050. Keep in my also with the resolution that on an LCD if you run at anything other than the displays native resolution, the image will blur a bit, so if your computer cant run your games at the full 1920x1080 resolution, you may want to keep that in mind as well.

first, i have a 22" monitor, and from what i know, it doesnt ghost at all (but im kinda a noob when it comes to monitors, so i could be wrong... and i looked on the box for the response time, and all it said was "swift response time"

second, i have heard GREAT things from that monitor, but be careful ordering online from newegg, their return policy kinda sucks on monitors (unless it has changed since i looked last)

thanks i was wondering bout the resolution thing to so it blurs that stinks is the blur bad??
I gues I find one that runs 1680x1050
I can run 1920x1080 but i dont what to be stuck at that resolution

I'm running a Dell 19" and it's on 1440 by 900
in game it's 1280 by 1024

i had no Troubles, But when i hooked up the white cord that came with my monitor and i had Trouble, By that i mean i saw lines in the right Top of my monitor while playing.

But since i plug the blue wire back in it's been fine

I have an Acer X241W 24" LCD. 5ms. The color is far from perfect, but I think it's very vibrant. At 5ms, there is literally no "ghosting" per se. The only thing you're going to get from a 2ms panel is a slightly faster reaction time. You probably can't tell the difference between 2ms and 5ms to be honest. Normal human reaction time is 150-300ms, so 2 or 5ms is literally nothing.

I switched from a large Samsung 19" CRT monitor to a 24" Acer LCD, and I have absolutely no regrets at all. It's lighter, the picture is cleaner, the color production is better, especially on the reds and blues. In all honesty, the only thing that that Samsung had over my 24" Acer LCD is its resolution. It had a max resolution of 2048x1536, while my LCD ONLY does 1920x1200... Honesly, 2048x1536 was so small on that monitor that it wasn't even worth it.

LCD's get my vote for sure.

Ummm, the blur from scaling isnt really all that bad, however it definitely is noticeable.

CRT's dont have a native resolution so all resolutions displayed will look sharp (for that resolution) while any resolution lower than the native resolution on an LCD will blur. Do not let that detract you from buying an LCD, they are still quite nice.

If you are worried about the refresh of the panels and will use it mainly for gaming, you may also want to take a look into finding an LCD that has no input lag. As far as I know there are only a few models that either have no input lag or very minor input lag.

If you dont know, input lag, is actually a lag from when the computer sends the display image to the screen and when it is actually displayed on screen. There have been a lot of tests done comparing them to CRT's (since CRT's do not have input lag) and most LCD's display the same frame anywhere from 16-50 ms after the CRT displays it. In extreme cases this can make your gaming movements feel laggy since the display tries to catch up.

This may also not be that important for you... i personally have a monitor that I found out later has pretty bad input lag, from about 30-50ms (which translates to a delay of approximately 2 frames out of the 60 frame refresh rate of the monitor) and I do not really notice it.

Sorry for bombarding you with a ton of information, but the response or refresh of the monitor on most modern monitors shouldnt result in any ghosting, and i thought you may be interested in hearing about the input lag, even though its really all based on what you perceive.

Yeah i used to have a Huge monitor switching over to a 19 LCD was best thing i ever did for my birthday i asked for one, And the best part was i got to pick it out!
And all they had at my walmart was dell so i decided i get that!

They had another Brand too but it was same as my dell it cost 300 and i was on a 200 dollor only so yup i love it still till this day.


If i get a job then i'm going to be buying a 24

Its not the response time that causes dead pixels its the size of the screen. The larger the screen the higher chance of a dead pixel. Thats why its usually best to go with a vendor that has a 1 dead pixel replace policy. Some have to have 4 or more to replace the panel.

You may have a hard time finding a manufacturer that has a 1 dead pixel policy. I do not know about individual vendors, but I can tell you that newegg's dead pixel policy sucks, i think it may even be 8 to warrant a return.

If you are really concerned about it, then yea, find a vendor that has that policy.... I was worried about dead pixels too, but I think quality control on many of these monitors is pretty good and I think you are probably somewhat unlikely to get any if you buy a quality brand monitor.

As was said earlier, I think the only thing that may affect the amount of dead pixels, is the screen size, the more pixels you have, the more chance for them to be dead.

there is the link for newegg and the review from tigertv. all the of the hp monitors are the same, just different size so if you decide you want one just watch the movie, even if its the wrong size on the movie.

It says the hp is 5 ms. I have never had ghosting of any sort with either one of the hp's i have, and I am also very picky about ghosting, brightness, etc.

Its a great monitor hope you check it out.

im not sure if thats the best monitor to get johon. I say that because of one reason. and that is the resolution of a 21.5 inch monitor. I believe it is 1620 x 1020. That might cause distortion and it would be annoying to find 1620 x 1020 wallpapers if youre picky about that. Also, I dont know for sure so don't quote me on this one but, asus' specialty is not monitors.

I think the resolution you are thinking of is 1680x1050 and its a pretty common 16:10 resolution these days. However, that particular monitor is actually higher resolution at 1920x1080, which is standard HD, however not quite standard for PC monitors.

but now I gots to dig through tons of reviews and forum threads to try to
figure out which is best CRAP!!
and has anyone played games at non native resolution
I understand it gets blurry but I wonder is viewing still enjoyable

i usually try to run it at native resolution, but if not, there is always running it in windowed mode (if you dont mind having a slightly smaller window to play it on)
