mIRC Setup Help
Tired of pubbing with people who have no idea what they are doing? Hate the fact that your getting Team-killed or team flashed ? Whether you’re looking into professional gaming or just simply want to compete competitively. this next tip will take your competition to a higher level.
This applies to many FPS shooters such as:
* Call of Duty 4
* Team Fortress 2
* Counter Strike 1.6
* Counter Strike: Source
* And More
A little background
mIRC is a FREE Internet Relay Chat where millions of people come together to: chat, share files, form online communities and even, for you FPS fans, find ringers and scrimmages against fierce competition.
* [+] A Ringer is defined as a person who is substituting the place of an absence player for a group of people called a Team or Pug.
* [+] A Scrim on the other hand is a combined group of people(Team/Pug) versus another Team/Pug.
* [+] A Pug is a group of players who get together to make a fun, or practice scrim
* [+] MM2, stands for Message Mode 2, during scrims/pugs your not usually supposed to talk in All-Talk. When the other team wishes you to top they'll usually say "MM2". Which basically means talk in Team-Chat.
* [+] Vent is short for Ventrilo, an online voice chat-room
* [+] Cal, Cevo, TWL, TGL are all different forms of online competition leagues, each league has different levels. Cal, and Cevo are the most notable leagues around today, the major difference being that it costs money to play Cevo, but you can win Money too. Cal on the other hand is totally free.
Example:: Cal-O -> Cal-IM -> Cal-M -> Cal-I (Best is Right)
*Note* Scrimmaging as it is called will undeniably increase your effectiveness in both your game play
and your overall experience/knowledge of the game.
Now for the big question, “How the hell do I get my hands on this program?”
*NOTE* There is no need to register! Again this program is FREE
* 1. Download and install mIRC from http://www.mirc.com/
* 2. After installation choose a nickname.
* 2a.Later if your in a channel, and you decide you want to change your name, simply type "/nick (and your new name)"
* 3. Now Click the “Ok” box and look towards the bottom part of the big white screen(status window), there should be a small chat-box there as shown in the image below:

* 4. Click in the chat box area and type: “/server irc.gamesurge.net” This should connect you to a random Gamesurge server.
* 5. Once connected with your desired nickname I highly recommend that you authenticate with Gamesurge (many Scrim and ringer channels require Gamesurge authentication and without it you will not be able to gain operator access in any channel!)
To setup authentication follow these steps:
* 1. Goto “http://www.gamesurge.net/createaccount/” and create an account
*1a. It is Very Important that you use a real e-mail when you register your account, otherwise you won't be able to sign up
* 2. You should soon receive an email containing a password
* 3. Once you activate your account via e-mail, now in the mIRC chatbox type “/as auth YourPassword“. Congratulations, you’re now authenticated.
Setup Channel Auto-join
After opening up IRC head on over to:
* Tools-Options
* Connect(expand the tab)-Options
then click
* Perform
How to setup channel auto-join in mIRC
After clicking on Perform type in “/as auth YourAuthName YourPassword”
Now hit “Enter” and type in “//mode $me +x” This will hide your IP so that no one can see it but you!
How to join channels
From the main window hit ALT+L or click on the “Channels List” button (4th icon from the left in the row with the lightning bolt symbol).
Now you can join them from the “Channels List” or manually by typing in the chat-box window: “/j #ChannelNAMEhere”

**Very Important** I highly suggest you download "Ventrilo", before you start pugging.
[X] Ventrilo is a free,voice chat software. Most teams/clans, use this program, or another one of the voice chat programs (Teamspeak, GSC). If you plan on joining pug's through #cod4pug, Its required have vent downloaded, and be in their servers when your pugging. They've been known to ban people who don't follow this rule.
*1. You can download Ventrilo at http://ventrilo.com/
*2. After you download Ventrilo, you'll need to make your username. Making a new username is free, and takes a few seconds. In the below image you'll see the steps
*3. Once you hit "New", Just put your desired username in the box. The descriptions aren't really needed, but if you want the server to say your name when you join a channel, fill out the "Phonetic" box with your name.
*4. Now its time to join a server. First hit the middle arrow in the ventrilo box, as illustrated below
*5. Once you know what server you intend to join, simply fill out the information in the empty spaces
*6. All that's left is to hit connect, and your ready to chat in ventrilo

A few side notes.
Colors
You can color your messages in mIRC
*1. The fastest way to start coloring your messages is to hit "Control+K". This should bring up a box with 16 color choices.
*2. After you choose your color a box with the corresponding number should
appear.
*3. All you need to do now is type your message and your ready to color
*4. If you want to add a backround to your message, just type ",#" the number you put in after the comma will be the backround color
*5. You can mix your colors up even more by hitting "Control+R", This will make a box identical to the color box. It'll switch up the colors your using. Just type Control+R again to return it to normal.

General mIRC Rules To Be Followed On All Servers
1) In most scrim channels your limited to "3" posts every 60 seconds, anymore then this and it's considered spam, and you'll be temp. banned by the channel bots.
2) Stealing usernames is also a serious offense in most servers, and you should expect to be banned if you get caught impersonating other members.
3) Running scripts that post random, non-sense things is also frowned upon.
4) When joining a channel always read the "Channel Topic" It may contain some useful information, that can keep you out of trouble.
5) When in mIRC, you can always repeat your message by hitting the up-arrow. This makes it very easy to send the wrong message, so be careful.
