Counter-Strike 2 Update: Rush Hour
Valve just dropped a new Counter-Strike 2 update called “Rush Hour,” and the main addition is a brand-new 3v3 mode called Rush.
Rush is pretty different from the normal CS2 experience. Instead of playing on the same competitive maps, teams move through a series of smaller battle arenas that are randomly picked during the match. Because of that, you do not really know exactly what kind of situation you are going to be thrown into next.
The mode is meant to be fast. Teams have limited money, rounds move quickly, and there is not much time to sit around waiting for something to happen. You either wipe out the other team or stay alive long enough to take control of the tower. Winning pushes your team farther through the arenas, and eventually you reach the enemy castle. Capture that and the match is over.
The random arenas are probably the biggest thing that separates Rush from the usual modes. You are not going into every game knowing all the same angles and setups, so there is a little more improvising involved. It feels like something made for people who want to jump into CS2 and play a few quick matches without dealing with the pressure of ranked.
There is also a friends leaderboard that keeps track of wins, so people can compare records with their group.
The rest of the update adds a handful of smaller changes. Blood effects have been updated, bullet marks are more noticeable, and there are some new crosshair shapes and customization options. Clan tags are back too.
One of the more interesting changes is silent reloading. You can now reload without making noise, but it takes longer, so there is actually a tradeoff to using it. Unscoping can also be completely silent now, which could be useful if you are trying not to give away your position.
The update also includes a new Starjunk 95 music kit. And an easter “egg” and get a chicken to hatch and claim a pet in the main menu.
Overall, Rush seems like Valve trying to give players something faster and a little less serious than regular competitive CS. The name “Rush Hour” is pretty fitting too, since most of the mode is basically about moving as fast as possible before the other team can stop you.
At least this version of Rush Hour has less Chris Tucker.
