NEVER GIVE OUT ANY PERSONAL INFO OVER STEAM FRIENDS

This includes:

People posing as friends with the same name or similar names

People pretending to from VAC, steam, or Steam customer service

Any site that asks for your account info and password

Prevention and recovery for your account:

Validate your steam account with your email for added security. (Best defense)

Do not, EVER, put your log in information into a link sent to you, even if it is from a friend.

Steam Guard- A new layer of security to help keep your account safe. For more info, please visit
https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=8232-WSGZ-8021

If you do lose your account, contact steam support as soon as possible. They can help you recover your account.

Having said this, we don't need people to post saying that someone hacked an account and is sending invites. What we do need is you to pm your division's advisor or DL and have them revoke admin on that steam id until you get your account back. Otherwise, we don't need 1000 threads about yours or someone else's account getting hacked.

also on a side note if you EVER put your password and hit Enter it will say WARNING are you sure you want to give out your password! Ex lets say my password was Edgegamers and i sent some one the website edgegamers.org the warning would pop up so you cant mistakenly give your password

What he said!

And if they try to take the info from you... shame and ridicule them until they cry.

I think people post threads like "I got hacked" etc as to let the other people in the community know they have been hacked, I suppose you could just PM alot of your steam friends in the site about it.

Thank you for this thread, ive been wanting one like this for ages, its better than 1000's of threads all over the forum. +1 Blackhawk

i wouldnt even give my best friend my pass. u cant trust anyone in the gaming comunity... but me of course :P.anyways good thread

That's how i I am, if someone Even asks for my password without warning Their off the list.

That's just messing with the wrong person

Here's a short story, Someone wanted to play CSS on my account and they come on dude only for a day,

*me* You want to play CSS buy it, But this is what I'm going to do for you, I'm going to kick you off my list and block you, But don't worry Be happy, have a good day.

That was one of my friends from school. I think it must have been a virus, as when i clicked the link, it was a .jpg.exe file.

Yes and thats my virus checker, i ask them what my name is. If they dont know, then i know its a scam or virus.

I clicked the link and it was downloaded, but when i went to open it, it gave me the message that it could be a virus, I didnt open it, and deleted the file straight after.

Do you think this will affect my computer?

He signed out straight after. Tell me your thoughts? Should i do a virus checker?

I would use a reputable online virus scanner to check your box, as well as change your password if your concerned.

?It is a miracle that curiosity survives formal education.?

What shall i use? Shall i just search google for a virus checker? This thing is spreading, my stupid friends from school didnt believe me at first. They said i was joking, not until they got it. I advised them to block everyone and anyone, and also to scan their pc's.

I am going to do the same now, i recognised it as soon as i saw the message, i had one a couple of years back, it was from my uncle.

Ok ive just ran an online virus checker from:

http://housecall.trendmicro.com/uk/

Hopefully they can confirm i dont have a virus, can anyone check its a legitimate website please? I think it is, i just dont want another whole load of virus's

Clear all cookies/personal data before going to a odd page. By odd, I mean one that you are feeling suspicious about.

If you see a blank box pop up and then go away real fast, CHANGE YOUR PASSWORD on about every website you have logged into since the last time you cleared your cookies.
