hey eGO techies. sometimes when i play a steam game, my internet suddenly disconnects and i cant move or attack, but i can still see ppl moving and talking, and eventually everything stops but i can still look around. and then i get timed out. i try to look for servers or reconnect, but nothing responds. i exit the game and try to browse the internet and nothing responds. so i have to repair the connection to get things working again(which is very time consuming cuz it takes like 1 min to exit out of TF2 (this also happened in CS:S), and my comp is pretty slow. this is happened when using 2 different connections, my own and my neighbors, so it cant be my router. i dont know how to check if its my adapter tho. does anyone know a solution to this so i can make the most of my free time T.T

P.S. i have a wireless B card and connections.

disable all firewalls and try it. Then scan your computer for spyware and viruses

i turn off my firewall everytime i play any games. that shouldnt be the problem. btw if i turned off my windows firewall cuz i have my own firewall, do i still have to add hl2 and stuff like that to the firewall exceptions? i dont think the exceptions thing is related to me disconnecting cuz before a reformatted like a week ago i had hl2 on the exceptions but had windows firewall off, and i still got disconnected. so it has to be something else.

i have eset smart security if it helps at all.

no you do not have to add exceptions to windows firewall if it is off. Go ahead and tell me exactly what happens when it disconnects. have you found any patterns with the disconnects? can you make them happen quicker or slower by doing anything in particular? and patterns in terms of what you are doing/what programs you are running when it quits? Also, i need all your specs and which graphics driver you have for your card.

so when it disconnects, its really completely random. but there are some moments when i think it happens when theres a lot of ppl firing at me, and then sometimes i just disconnect when walking. in short, its completely random. i tried playing DOD:S earlier and it happened again, so now 3 games have disconnected me: CS:S, TF2, and DOD:S.
so when i notice i get disconnected, i am unable to move, but everything else around me keeps moving for a couple seconds, and then when all the other players get out of my sight, i dont see anymore ppl walking around. i can still hear ppl talk on the mic for a very long time tho. so i dont think my internet completely disconnects. after waiting for a minute or so, the red connection problem notice appears in the top right corner. i try to look for servers or reconnect, and nothing shows up. so then i exit out, my wireless connection status looks normal, and im unable to browse the internet. everything goes back to normal when i hit repair the connection.
i only have eset smart security running in the background, my graphics card is a nvidia geforce fx 5200, i dont know if it has anything to do with the disconnecting tho o.o cuz cs:s can be played with a crap gfx card and i still get disconnected.
i have a super old computer lol. it has a 1.60 ghz intel pentium 4 processor, 512 mb ram, windows xp pro 32 bit service pack 3.

alright, my best bet would be that its an overheating issue. Your problem is hard to test for. I would first reinstall directx, then reinstall video drivers.

Is this problem on all games? if not, which games do not quit out on you?

If none of the above works I would reinstall windows completely. If that does not work it is definitely overheating or hardware failure.

Good luck

lol i think i found a solution. i was searching on google, and i found 1 guy who seemed to have the same problem as me. he said that after he connected however, if he refreshed and then stopped it right away (clearing the server list apparantly), then he stopped dcing. so i tried it and so far i have not dced in game. ive played for maybe 3-4 hrs non stop, so unless this happens again, it looks like the solution is to clear the server list, cuz supposedly the more servers on the list, the more requests continuously sent to the router, which eventually runs out of memory and shuts off ur internet. thx for trying to help me tho

ok lol nvm, it still happens even after clearing the server list, just not as often. now i usually see it happening when too many things happen at once, like just now i was on fire, and shooting and reloading right after and walking and then it just disconnected. is it cuz the router/my computer cant handle it? i think it might be my computer cuz after i repair the connection it goes back to normal.
