Insurgent snipers; Difference?

Thank you Khosh, showing a little intelligence in here, XD. Now that it's been clarified that you are wondering what the difference is between the SVD and the M21 and not the M21 and the M4 or something, which also has something that could be considered a scope, I can follow along in this thread. Not to mention you were referring to the M21 as an assault rifle, which is what the M4 is, not the M21.

For the gameplay mechanics in INS, I would put the order of damage dealt per round in this order, from weakest to strongest:
M21
SVD
Enfield

The differences aren't big but this is more for balancing sake since the M21 has the bipod and can have no sway at all, and the M21 and SVD are both semi-auto.

There is no M21, it's an M14 EMR. Don't believe me, spawn yourself one in console.

Also, the enfield does feel a bit under powered. It shoots the second most powerful round yet has the worst overpen and damage of the three.

Srry for the double post but it's a completely different subject.

I present screen shots of the expected accuracy of the various snipers:

The four groups are from the three different sniper rifles. I don't intend for this to be a definitive review of the sniper rifles. Rather, I just want to portray my experience with their accuracy. All shots were taken from guesstimated distance of 100m

I'll start with the SVD. It's group is on the lower right. Ten shots where fired from a prone position taking time in between shots to see were the other hit and adjust my aiming appropriately.

The M14 has two groups. The one on the lower left was obtained from a prone position while the upper left was taken from a standing bi-pod deployed position.

From the prone position, I fired the rifle in the exact same manner as the SVD. Due to a set of unusually small bullet hole decals I had a hard time making out where I had hit. So there is a small set of outliers off to the left that you may or may not take note of.

I changed up my firing practice when firing from the bi-pod deployed position. Since I no longer had to compensate for the constant retical float, I merely took a single shot, then lined the cross hair on that single point for every shot.

The upper right is my first attempt with the L42, which as you can see, is abysmal compared to my first three groups. I fired the rifle in the exact same manner as with the SVD and M14 in the prone position.

This is my second and 3rd attempts with the L42. The right group is from a prone position and the left group is from a standing position. I fired the rifle both times in the same manner as the SVD in the prone position. Don't ask me to explain why I was more accurate standing than prone

And just for fun, some L42 no scope:

All shots were taken from the bottom veranda @ Obj B on ins_almaden.

BAH to both of you!
Use all 3 snipers and you will find they do the same thing.. KILL PLAYERS! And that is only done through headshots or Chest shots.. ALSO: Arms and Leg shots dont kill players they just hurt them... Basically : ALL 3 snipers are 2 hit or 1 hit kill depending on where you hit.. I've had about* 7000 kills to realize that they dont make any difference in game except that there are specific maps and areas and all the blah blah to use the snipers more effectively and its that my friends, is another long story to tell which i wont bother since you should go figure it out yourselves!

Come test that on on someone that uses all 3 snipers  Cause i gotta tell ya, it dont make any difference which sniper you use in this game. They all have their pros and cons and if you are good with all 3 , those bullet holes on the wall dont count in any way:p

RPK SNIPING FTW!!!!!!!!

On-Topic:

When it comes to sniping on the Insurgent side, I always choose the good'ol SVD. The reason? Mainly because it's semi-automatic. If I happen to miss my target, or if my first round did not kill him, I can immediately zero in on my target and fire another round. Whereas, if I had the L42, I would have to cycle a new round into the chamber (which takes quite a bit of time).

Another reason of why I prefer to use the SVD is it's "ease of use" while in Close Quarter Situations. I find myself taking loads of no-scopes at Marines when inside of a building, or clearing out a tunnel, etc. with the SVD. I don't know if it's the placebo effect taking place, but I have never ever done this with the L42. Once again, the semi-automatic-ness comes into use when and if you miss the first round.

Now, about the M21. In my opinion, the M21 is an all around much better sniper rifle than the SVD and the L42. For one, it has a nifty bi-pod that can be deployed on walls, road-blocks, or any piece of "thing" that is being used as cover. The bi-pod not only makes the gun more stable, it also slightly reduces recoil. Aside from the bi-pod, I always find that the mil-dot reticule/crosshair of the M21 helps me always hit my mark. I'm not saying that the SVD's unique crosshair or the L42's boring crosshair is useless, but it's just that the M21's reticule/crosshair is much simpler and easy to aim with.

IN MY OPINION: M21>SVD>L42

So, unlike the M14 EMR scope, you never have to adjust for range or windage in combat.

Technically, that's a mildot scope and also would not require any adjustments as the mildots can be used for holds for fast acquisition.

Nice ! love all the info.. but snipers will have nothing on SUPPORT OR RPG! :P ahahah

Psh.. As Terminator says "Talk to the hand"
Support HAH!
RPG... well I suppose it can go either way.... Especially when you watch one in the balcony firing a rocket that ends up hitting the balcony wall LOL.... I mean seriously! Its funny as hell lmao!

Like i still cant help but laugh at how many people kill themselves doing that or especially shooting through the window but ending up angling it a bit too downwards to end up getting the massive ragdol effect with their bodies to splatter and smash the other end of the wall... But i gott say, one time i nearly jumped or pissed my pants ( i think it was like all at the same time in Almaden) when one I as a marine was walking into door way with all those windows and one of it facing down the middle of the mosque when  BANG  and like i actually thought was dead :p but i end up seeing an insurgent body fly right towards me... I mean, it was the scariest thing i have ever seen playing INS. I mean an insurgent flying at you and bounching off your body at such speeds that you must think the developers developed a rocket pack for insurgents to hit their targets right when they get in a narrow doorway while the marine looks frantically everywhere expecting enemies to ambush him from a variety of places.... ITs scary.. trust me its scary
