Conqueror banned on clan Lotus Servers

i used to play on lotus servers now i play strictly on ours (since it's the clan's servers) i never had probs with lotus tho so i'm pretty surprised that would happen.

Never been on lotus servers. Do they have good players on there?

I've made a little simple diagram to help your case Conqueror.

demo_frame.PNG

This is a small top-down snapshot of a frame within a demo recording. The blue line is what you see on your screen, and the red line could be a possible view that is seen by a spectator or in a demo. In essence, the difference between what you're aiming at and what the demo records can become very large at long game distances.

The reason for this inaccuracy can be tied down somewhere inside client -> server -> client transferring of data, client interpolation, and various other networking factors that are complicated to explain.

Generally your client is always interpolating on data from the server in order to move the player in the direction that is expects the player to move from the previous frame. The reason for this interpolation is so that any shots you make actually register when a ray trace is performed and your bullet hits their hitbox.

If interpolation wasn't around, you'd have to lead your target in order for the latency delay between when you fired and when the server received the information that you fired to be accurate to where the player has moved.

This whole complex networked system leads to the inconsistencies when recording demos and spectating players. The effect of missed shots will appear in both demos and when spectating players.

To sum it up: The networking delay between your client, the server, and then the client of the recording player, in addition to the interpolation done by both clients and managed on the server causes the demo to be inaccurate.

You can get alot more information about what I'm talking about at the following places:

http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/QAngle - This value is generally retrieved by calling a function on a player in the engine.
const QAngle &CBasePlayer::EyeAngles( ) to be more exact.

Demo information can be viewed here: http://svn.bgmod.com/code/trunk/public/demofile/demoformat.h
If you don't read C/C++ code all that well (which I figure you should, since you're going for Comp Sci! :D), the format is generally just a big chunk of frames that get recorded. These frames can be the input from your keyboard, voice chat from other players, and basically everything else.

Networking information can be received from here:
http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Source_Multiplayer_Networking - This describes in general the relationship between the client and the server and how data is sent between them. It goes into short detail about interpolation and prediction.
http://developer.valvesoftware.com/...rver_In-game_Protocol_Design_and_Optimization - This article was written by Yahn Bernier, the chief engineer behind source's networking code. This article will go into a whole lot of detail as to the design behind interpolation and why it's necessary.

I hope this all helps you out! :)

Man VoiDeD you sure have done the research on this topic. Another question is, those sniper videos that you see on Youtube which look super smooth, does that mean the person is recording themselves as they playing? Never bothered to record my self play. Interesting

This is sad and funny. GG Conq. You've headshotted me enough, but I've also dodged enough of your shots and know your patterns you don't hack. Also, going a game and letting a sniper own the other team regardless of how good that player is isn't teamwork. If you find yourself opposite conqueror just spam pipes or rocket in his general direction and keep him moving. That will keeps his kills-per-minute down and you can win! :)

Should also mention conq, you're one of the main reasons (and a few other top snipers) I always carry the flare gun. If you miss me and I'm accurate with the flares it makes your job a lot more difficult! :P

Too bad badwater isn't around on a PL rotation server, cause you were among a lot of us regulars that really brought the skill level of that server high above the rest of the net.

Conqueror: Sorry to hear that you were banned over at Lotus... However, look at the upside!

You'll get to game on the high-quality, not-bot-using, no-reserve-slot-ridden, not-trigger-happy-ban servers here at eGO!

:D And also, congratulations on joining our community -- my official welcome extends to you!

Yeah I mess around with the source engine alot, I know most of the in's and out's of it. Oh and I guess being a networking software specialist has something to do with it. >.>

As for the smooth recordings, generally you can either record straight with fraps or record a demo. If you get a demo there are some convars you can mess with to make it a little bit more smooth. Such as interpolation and prediction convars, some rate convars, and some other things.

Generally I believe that server tick rate has the most to do with how smooth your gameplay is recorded.

That brings up a funny story. I was banned by eGO long ago as a hacker before I joined eGO. Back then, they instant banned and then submit the demo. Of course these days, we do it the other way around. Don't feel bad man, with the hacks out these days, sometimes its hard to distinguish a legitimate player from a hacker. Its been a year since that incident, you'll get over it. Nothing wrong with being good with the sniper.

AWP haxx0r.

But that's kind of funny. I heard about eGO then.

Everyone complained they were ban-happy jerks.

Obviously that's not nearly the case now.

Some people never got over it, though.

That's where haters come from, childrens.

I'll be back tomorrow with a new story for you all.

That's what happens when you r good and go play in other clan servers, where the players generally aren't that good. Those clans have lower standards, and are not too appreciative of particularly skilled players that dominate the game. Guess you'll just have to come back and play in the eGO Warpath and Goldrush servers again. I think the InV clan has enjoyed your absence. Me, I've been missing you as of late, and look forward to stabbing you in the future :D.

Just to say thanks to everybody who posted and believes me. Feels good to know that at least I have EGO on my side.

On that note I've decided to officially become a full fledged EGO member. Will make my official request to join in TF2 recruiting forum, by today's end

Well I hope to see you guys wearing my =e= tag in game soon.

Sweet deal and about time ;)

Welcome Conqueror! I have enjoyed playing with you a few times although it's much more fun when you are on my team!;)

Never been on lotus servers. Do they have good players on there?

I've played in their servers before..It's annoying that they use bots to trick people into thinking that it's a full server. Their players aren't as good as the players I've faced in eGO servers.

Sucks for you getting banned on their servers, Conqueror. They are probably just jealous of your skill seeing how you've been pwning them.

EDIT: This is why I play strictly on eGO servers. Other servers do not make me feel right at home other than eGO.

I used to play on Lotus servers. I actually applied for the clan, except you need 5 one hour games with a full member (and there are maybe a dozen..) And then I gave up and joined eGO. :D

The Lotus clan are good people, and I fully respect them. But this ban was a mistake, and if they refuse to fix it, by all means just stay here and don't run off into other servers.

Good News, Everyone...

I watched the demo and I cannot even believe you guys think he is hacking, he clearly is not hacking. His movement is shaky from what I believe to be a gaming mouse with the sensitivity high, he did not shoot invis spies and i never saw his cross hair lock on to a head hitbox and i did not see him scoping out stuff as you would if you are using a Wallhack, sorry for the Ban conqueror I hope to see you on lotus servers again soon, the ban should be lifted

So I guess that solves everything. =D
