not too helpful...are you?
I suppose "Aim. Click. Dead." was just as helpful, but in any case this is how I have seen it. There 2-3 different types of styles that come with sniping. Sometimes in the course of one spawn-life we deploy more than 1 style, but usually depending on the map, your position, and how well your teammates are doing, it will determine if you will survive long enough to try.
The first type is the more "traditional" style; the location is usually considered a sniper's nest already, one would creep slowly into view to scope a respective area in which to snipe. In this case survival may be successful depending on the ability of counter-sniping on the opposing team. The suggestion with this style is not to expose yourself too often and not to stay in the same spot for too long.
The second style is a bit more of an offensive style. Some have dubbed it "offensive-sniper". As many of us have experienced the power if a K98--1 shot, 1 kill--imagine that power with a scope. It would also require good timing with going into scope while turning a corner, quick reflexes, and good intuition. When first trying this you will probably die more often than kill, but with enough practice you we will see improvements. Best advise with this class (and an other class really), mini map is your friend.
The third style is similar to the first. However, it covers less ground and involves you not moving as much. Often called "Camping" because at most times, with the luxury of death-cam, you will find the sniper lying on his/her belly(prone). It may not always be the case, but the essence of this style is to remain in scope and only watch a very small area of seemingly high foot traffic; simply watching a window in order to counter snipe, or positioning yourself in such a way that your view would almost completely be concealed leaving a mere sliver of light in which would be your chosen area to snipe. Results would vary depending on your position and reaction time, but a high KD ratio shouldn't be expected.
There.
