XP or Vista?

Im willing to bite the bullet and upgrade to Vista now, but not sure if its really worth it. I still have about 5 years left so... If I do go to Vista should I go x64 just because?

Amd 5000+ 2.6Ghz
2gb OCZ Platinum
8500GT Dx10 ready
Dont have the required 15gb hard drive space required, which will take some file moving to another hard drive to get this, but no biggie.

here are my thoughts about XP vs Vista. If you want more frame rates for games, go with XP. But if you want a OS with a more stylish GUI, go with Vista.

A thing to think about 64-bit systems are less support on drivers. So yeah...

There are lots of review and benchmarks that have been done on XP vs Vista and 34-bit vs 64-bit systems out there. All you gotta do it Google it. :)
 
XP is the choice to go with if you plan on playing games.

Vista works ok for games, expect many problems though.

If you use MAC you basically dug your own grave, their are almost no games(Minesweeper, and browser games don't count:P)
 
fair enough.. Im starting to come around with vistas style, still not sure of it. but like i said I still have about 5 years before i have to, hopefully there will be something better then. But im more into the games than the look.
 
Keep with XP and get Windows 7 when it comes out

and you dont have 15gb of space? then keep xp

Vista, is a very messy operating system if you don't take care of it in my opinion. But, the GUI is pretty and because of that it takes up a lot of memory. I don't care about a pretty GUI. Hah, I care about performance, and stability. So Vista isn't really for me.
 
Well, XP as everyone else said is better than Vista, but the price of XP has always prevented me from rewriting a factory installed Vista. I don't have the $99 to burn. I use Vista though, and I haven't had too many problems with it. Heck, I'm playing TF2 just fine with decent FPS WITHOUT a graphics card. Also, 64bit in my opinion is a bit overrated at the moment, because there's nothing out there that can really use all 8 GB of RAM that you would be able to have (or more, gasp, 16GB?!?!?!), and the benefits don't make up for the loss of stability and the possibility that drivers don't work, in addition to programs having problems with it. I'd stick with 32 bit for now.
 
Ok, thanks all. One last Q, Home or Pro? I read that Pro takes more advantage of your computer and produces better than Home. Is this correct or just another rant?
 
I use XP... on all my game PC's .... Vista is in the office Lab tops and work PC's and thats Bad enought...

never had home all ways had pro going on 5 years now..never had a problem running any games.
 
At this point in the game, as others have said, wait it out for sure!
 
with 2GB RAM u won't be able to play any demanding games on Vista, 1GB is hogged by the OS, it's ridiculous... IMO, just stick to XP for now, they have much better performance, and wait to see if Vista SP2 fixes any of the problems of SP1 (as it did with XP) and how W7 ranks up to those two.
As far as 32 or 64 bit systems are concerned, take the one that makes your computer cheaper, unless you're buying a server, u won't find a single game or application that will utilise the full potential of 64-bit OS, but if your rig comes bundled with 64bit, heh, don't say no!! ;p hope that helped!
