AMD Phenom II Overclocked to 6.5GHz - New World Record for 3DMark

FYI: They used liquid helium to show that their chips don't suffer from the cold bug that their earlier chips did.

LMAO:

"AMD does not recommend pouring liquid nitrogen on your head or your friends head. Liquid helium is EXTREMELY dangerous in untrained hands and is one of the coldest substances in the universe."

Imagine what score they could of hit with a decent set of DDR2 and a super OCed set of 4870X2s. Still good on them...... and take that Intel. At this rate(they will be owned by the UAE) they will be truly competitive with Intel in no time. Can't wait to see what Bulldozer brings to the table...

That's pretty good stuff, makes your water cooling kits look like crap.

Well an Intel i7 756million transistor processor is at the top, however arnot, could you tell all of us the graphics card used in that test and the company that makes it...looks like an ATI/AMD Radeon HD 4870X2...

yeah, but as for when they said the "highest" 3D mark score, they didnt break the world record. I know they broke the world record overclock for a quad core, but as for the Score, its not the highest ever

Actually gooda your wrong i was on OCN reading the thread and the dude from the video stopped in and chatted he said they never hit 6.8. they got the record with 6.4xx ghz. Then did a screen shot of cpu-z at 6.5ghz.

Also They did break the record. The number 1 score on there is not official because they used unapproved drivers.

p.s. looks like intel is finally getting some competition back! amd/ati are really looking good this year. Im glad competition is back!

ahhh smoochee, thanks for showing that to me, i had not seen that message.

So they arent the highest ever, but they are the highest Official ones. we'll put it that way

In the end, they were unable to hit that clock, but they still hit an unbelievable 6.8GHz, which for a 3.0GHz processor, is a 225% overclock. Just how stable was it? Well, you can pretty much guess that one, but it was stable enough to pass through a few benchmarks with relative ease. Although Intel CPUs were also being overclocked, all the focus was on AMD's latest product.

TG could be wrong. I'm just quoting a news story...

heres the link to the ocn thread i was looking at. http://www.overclock.net/hardware-news/448528-amdzone-phenom-ii-6-5ghz-liquid-5.html

He never says anything about hitting 6.8. The only reason i believe this is that the cpuz validater site only has up to 6.4 on there. they didnt even get 6.5 validated.

i wanna say i read somewhere in that thread that they hit 6.8 on one core on the pII which is still very impressive!

Either way on this one im quite impressed its a heck of a move for AMD! Nice to see they are coming back!

actually, sorry to burst your bubble guys... but after doing some research, they never broke the record.

http://service.futuremark.com/searc...-100&graphicsdriver=-100&operatingsystem=-100

if you look at the dates, the highest 3D mark 05 score was posted on Jan 4. These AMD guys did it on Jan 12.

And for those out there, yes im sure 6.5 is THE highest overclock, but they did not beat the 3D mark score.

Well as you can see, they havent updated the score yet, i been reading it at OCN. It actually 6.8 not 6.5 :p
