Overclocking your Intel Core 2 Duo cpu

Hehe, just been really busy. Too many internet forums. Aside from eGO for my gaming fix.

I'm on about 6 different car forums from all the car's ive been modifying in the past 8 years. =P
 
well i unfortunately found out that my motherboard is the official bottleneck.. when it came to doin the multiplier, found that the min was 6x & the max was 8x, & i was like thinkin "oh come on, thats not much" cause 8x is the stock processor. do you think its possible to go passed the 8x, even tho the bios says that 8x is max?

It's not possible for you to go past 8x. That multiplier is locked on these processors. The only way to get around that is by buying the "Extreme Edition" processor, which is higher end. It also costs a lot more.
 
I got a E6600 running at 2.4GHz by default, oc'ed it via bios to 3.2GHz

Core temp is around 32?C idle and at 45?C at 100%

i really dont understand how toby oc'd his, & he has a less powered cpu than i do. its gotta be a motherboard issue.
 
well ur core voltage is a lil higher, but its ur multiplier that makes the difference. i cant go any higher than 8x due to my motherboard (stupid bios), but i can increase the core voltage. ill look into increasing it around what you have, but i doubt itll make much of a difference w/o the multiplier.
 
Have you tried increasing your frontside bus? Thats how i got my e6750 to 3.3ghz. That is how you overclock the processor. Change it to 385mhz and see if your pc boots.
 
if u look @ the screens smoochee, theres really nowhere that i can adjust the fsb @. also what bout the CPU Enabled Halt (C1E) & the CPU EIST Function? leave those enabled or what?
 
well after looking at the screenshots again i think i might know what to do. Change the cpu host clock control to enabled and then try changing the cpu host frequency to 385. See if that works.
 
Well smoochee, I took your advice & I have good news, I can overclock! yay! The only thing im really worried about is the memory. I took screenies as proof of the OC as well as the memory timings:
Theres 1 small issue. I looked into the bios for the memory timings, & theres not an options for 1:1, but there was AUTO, 2:0, 3:0, 4:0, & others (i cant remember them all). Any suggestions on the memory timings? Also I have d/l orthos, & Ive heard of another program (cant remember the name tho, but once I adjust the memory timings according to yall's advice (ya some bit of me is Texan, leave me alone on that please), then ill do testing using orthos.
 
Well were getting somewhere now! Well now for the ram... can you post another picture of your bios like the one on the right. I'm thinking you might be able to change the ram frequency manually. If it says 900hmz in there see if you can change it to 800. it will make it more stable. Also what are your cpu temps? If its stable and your temps are good i would push that just a tid bit more unless your happy with the performance gain.
 
well when it comes to the temp the voltage went up a lil due to the overclocking, but ill look into the memory timings. like i said, theres no 1:1 when it came to the memory timings, or else i would have set it there & been happy w/ it. but ya, ill def take pix of the bios again.
