Ive been wanting to switch to a diff class, spy being my 1st class...anyways, I am wanting to switch to scout...only played that class a little bit and liked it, also update comming so Im looking for any advice you guys can give me on the class. As far as how to manuver around, what I should do in certain situations....like when I should run for it or stay and fight. How I need to attack...example, pyro is an ambush class i get that, but what type is a scout...ect. How can I go about becoming a good scout and make use of all my abilities and become an asset not a dissapointment for my team. Thx for the help guys, I appreciate all your help.

Pick your battles!

Never attack anyone head on, always shoot the people that are distracted and are in battle with your teammates.
Low sensitivity seems to help me.
Use your double jumps.
Run away if youre getting owned, and come back when ure full health again.
Stay alive rather than try and get a kill that you will end up dying in.

This video should help alot, should watch in HQ too, so its easier to see:

Usually people are running since they have low health, are on fire, you can easily catch up with them and shoot them in their backs, also medics are very easy to kill when you are a scout, just avoid getting too close, since I killed many scouts with my ubersaw since they get too close.

Keep running, and don't come close to pyro's...they will probably set you long enough on fire to die.

if you hear natasha....better make a run for it.

The link for the video is broken.

and also, you don't EVER need a dispenser here
you just don't

and I really don't see that much use for natascha, sure it slows you, but with scout speed you're around the corner right away cause it can't kill you with that low damage in time
reg. minigun is a lot more deadly

Find me in any server and I'll teach you a couple dozen things...

If you're targeting something like a sniper/medic (which you should be :p) and they don't spot you, get good and close to make sure your scattergun does the most damage, then work your way back and if you haven't killed them from that close, switch to your pistol and pick them off if you can and then run and come back from a different angle if you haven't killed them yet. Also, learn the spots you can use double jump to your advantage to get somewhere quicker (like at the A spot on Blackmesa) it'll make you unpredictable and could be a quick get away in a pinch. If you're attacking a heavy and they don't see you, jump right on their head and give them a bunch of shots from the scattergun while constantly changing directions/double jumping and then finish him with a bat if he's not dead yet. IMO, it's rather hard to aim at something when it's in your face.

Staying moving generally retreat whenever you A: are on fire B: are on very low health ie : 40 or below.C: when there are 1 or more combat classes (soldier, pyro, heavy) coming at you head on. It is generally easy to flank around and take em by surprise - or just leave em alone until it is safe to go hnuting again.
Scatter gun does the most damage at close range so when taking an enemy by surprise try and get that point blanc in then instantly jump backwards or sidewards as you don't want a crit to the face.
REALOAD constantly reload your scattergun i can't tell you how many time when i first started playing scout i got killed coz i only had 1 shot in my s-gun.

COMMUNICATE
Bad communication ends up with you turning corners and getting blasted in the face by a lvl 3 sentry. Try asking if you have just joined "Could anyone tell me roughly where their sentrys are?"

good luck :)

alot to take in and alot to work on, thx guys appreciate all the feed back. Im playing scout non stop and trying to work my way through all diff maps, any suggestions how to play specific maps, im mainly on the valve maps server so its got all of them in there...I find maps like dustbowl a bit hard to play as an effective scout, since once you start...theres like a million sentries, how do u guys fair when dealing with odds like these, just sit back and wait till an opening clears up or what? One more thing, how do u guys go about playing payload maps...i get a bit frustrated playing these as im usually doing alot of the action as spy, most of the time ive got to stay back as scout and wait till the SG's are down to get into the game. How do u guys handle these things?

Dustbowl scouting: really only go scout if you know that there is gonna be a VERY offensive full team push on the point or if you are on defence.
Defence scouting: SPYCHECK The scout is both faster and agile than the pyro making for quick and easy spychecking. Also as my name suggest keep taking out those medics, engies and those pesky snipers who think that kurki vs scatter = win ;)
