ok make sure you have installed the right new driver.
first you need to uninstall your old driver. to do this right click on my computer, go to properties. Then go to device manager. Then click the plus next to display adaptor and right click your video card and select uninstall. You will need to reboot your computer and when it reboots it will look strange, dont worry.
then double click the new driver you downloaded and if you downloaded the correct driver it will work fine.
additional information about the problems youre having (i.e. error messages, when in the install it does not work) would be much appreciated.

i did all of that u told me and i cannot seem to firgure out how to download the newest version it gives me the same error message like it says it cant find my platform or something like that

hey llamaboy, if you right click on your my computer icon & go to properties, then click on the hardware tab & click on the device manager, it will bring up a window that will give you several options. there will be a + sign next to display adapter. if you click that + sign it will tell you what graphics processor ur usin (whether its motherboard graphics or a video card). def let us know. also you can go to www.srtest.com & choose a game & it will tell you whether you are using a video card or motherboard graphics. i would suggest backyard hockey 2005 since it can easily run on most motherboards w/o an issue.

1) Open Start Menu, select Run (alternatively, hit the windows key+r at the same time)
2) Type 'dxdiag' without the quotes
3) If a prompt comes up saying that it might be harmful, go ahead and just click through (you're computer will be fine)
4) After the bar in the lower left hand corner finishes loading all the information, hit the 'Save All Information...' button in the lower right hand corner.
5) Save it to your desktop
6) Add the file as an attachment on here when you reply to your post, this will help us determine more information about your computer and it's hardware.

Ok guys, I've been working with him and I can't get it to work. I've seriously tried every single card in my deck, short of an OS install. Basically he has a Dell Dimension 4700 and the video card is a Radeon X300 SE. I've tried the ATI drivers (including CCC), and the Dell drivers from their website. It's totally weird. XP refuses to acknowledge the installed driver.
Here's the information I've gathered from his video card:
GPU: RV3700
BIOS version: VER008.015.113.000
Memory Type: DDR
Device ID: 1002-5B60
Again, it's the Radeon X300 series, and he has GPU-Z and Driver Cleaner Pro if anybody else has advice for him.
