Academy awards coming up soon, here are some past winners and nominees plus found top 30 on yahoo but dont agree, some movies that are classics but not included, some not really war movies. what do you guys think? Sub categories, i.e. best wwII, wwI, civil war pic etc. Sorry if this topic has already been covered.

Best American war movies you mean?

I do not see Grand Illusion, Army of Shadows, Battle of Algiers, Andrej Wajda's Generation, Kanal, or Ashes and Diamonds, Overlord, and i can keep going. Foreign cinema has so much to offer, you should try some of that.

yeah the yahoo users top 30 dont agree with some like 3 kings? cmon. african queen? good movie but a war movie? more like an adventure/romance. I still think there should perhaps be some subcategories though. best civil war-i would include the Outlaw Josey Wales I reckon , best premodern? like spartacus, the 300 gladitator, etc

I really liked the movie saints and soldiers, has anyone else seen A midnight clear? I remember liking it.


and would definitely include band of brothers but then again it was written, produced and directed by the same folks of saving private ryan.
