oblivion sounds no work

when i battle people in oblivion the sounds it should make when i hit people are not always there. Sometimes when i battle one on one i get the noise it should make when ur sword hits an enemy, but most of the time in battles i get no hitting sounds on people :\ any suggestions? when i randomly just hit walls it seems to make noise...
