ATI Preparing Radeon 4890...

http://www.techpowerup.com/85163/AMD_Preparing_Radeon_HD_4890_Slated_for_April.html

Looks good :D

AMD has been working the ATI RV790 GPU for a while now. It appears to be like it will take a little longer for the company to release an SKU based on it. Contradicting earlier reports, it is known that the RV790-based SKUs stay within the Radeon HD 4800 series, and not form the HD 4900 series.

The flagship single-GPU product based on the RV790 is to be called Radeon HD 4890. Samples based on the RV790XT A11 are currently running at speeds of 850/975 MHz (core/memory). AMD is reportedly telling its partners that the RV790XT is expected to be around 20% faster than the RV770XT (HD 4870), and has NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 285 in its sights, for head-on competition. Additionally, AMD may force NVIDIA to reconsider its pricing, since the RV790XT is expected to be priced between US$199 to US$249, up to $150 cheaper than the GeForce GTX 285 in its current pricing. Unfortunately, one has to wait till April.

WOOT ATI FTW!!!

I really am hoping this card is solid competition and forces nvidia to actually start working on cards and pricing better! More competition = Better Prices and cards for us!

"Prepating"?? Grammar School? :D

Sounds good, I like seeing ATi's progress... while NVidia just renames the same card XD

April huh? I should have my tax refund come in by then. I wonder how much I will get from the $11,000+ I paid for school alone... should be enough to upgrade my PC. YUM!

wow, sooner than I thought...maybe that'll have a place where my 4870 is now :)

How're they backtracking when this is (supposedly) going to beat the GTX285 for a ton less?

Nvidia fanboy much?

yeah from what i understand the GTX 285 and 295 are two cards with a single GPU on each card. So its basically SLI inside one heatsink. correct me if im wrong. (I know gooda will if i am ;) )

and ATI cards are two GPU's on the same card. Better engineering.

The nvidia cards from what I have heard also run hotter than their ATI counterparts.

The GTS295 might be a little faster, but more people are going to be buying the cards from ATI for the better "get what you pay for" ratio.

In my eyes this means ATI wins and Nvidia needs to put some more thought into their cards because I want them to get back on top. This competition is great and is what created the 4870X2.

ya, just a little.

personally, i just side with whichever runs faster. but anyway, away from the h8ing, i do agree, this card is making progress that nvidia is clearly lacking in. and i do hope that it stays under $200, then it will make nvidia rethink there strategy, and fanboys like me will not be charged as outrageous prices.
