Stats/Unlocks

Hey guys,

I was just wondering about some TF2 info here. When you get achievements and unlocks, does it get stored in your steam account or on your computer. Cuz we are reformatting and i don't want to lose my data.
Can someone help me out PLZ?!?!?!?

I would say stored on you PC cause ive had to reinstall Steam about 15 times and never lost my Awards to this day...

well, is it stored in your steam PROFILE or is it in the computer. You could have just reinstalled steam but sill had the stats because your steam account still had it.

It gets stored to your steam account... so if one day you log on and you have non of the weapons that you get from those... restart steam... you missed a patch.

Your steam account. I've gone over to my cousin (lordvader77)'s house and logged into my account. I have all my stats and stuff.

Last time I checked, achievements/unlocks are stored on Valve servers. Stats are stored on computer and occasionally uploaded to the Valve servers. The computer copy takes priority over the server copy, because I once had 49 points as medic, which I got on my laptop, and it always said 49 points max. All my other computers and my steam page said my previous record.

i belive they use the steam cloud to save achievements ect. so you can access it from any computer

Without knowing, I'd be 99% certain that they're stored on your steam account not your PC. Think about it, when people get hacked they have to get their achievments again on their new account.

Factually, Achievements and Stats have always been stored on the Steam Cloud - though it used to be the case that you had to wait for a little bit on your new install before they showed up. Now its instant, and now your weapon loadout is saved too (eg. if you had the Airblast Flaregun and Axestinguisher loaded out, thats what you will have loaded out on your new install/PC)

The only thing it doesnt yet do is hang on to your control preferences. All you have to do when you log into a new PC is set your custom keys/mouse sensitivity and have at the infidels with fiery death.

afaik stats are all uploaded when you quit hl2.exe - but that fails a lot, so presumably theyre also uploaded when you launch as well. Or more likely its handled by the game server: which is how you hear of people joining acheivments servers and having their acheivments all unlocked and their stats hacked. What I do know is the system is built around you not being able to doctor your stats or acheivment settings...though clearly some server owners are not nice.
