Scout update!!!!!

haha I knew it would be a baseball, what else could it have been for a bat substitute.

BTW this is going to make blackmesa sooooooooooooo much more fun.

It just takes the advantages of the scout away. Cant double jump, and gotta stop moving so u can hit a ball. With 125 hp i doubt u wanna stand still often.

It doesn't say that you have to stand still.

I'm guessing that they gave the scout a weapon like this in order to make him a more dynamic character. If it isn't hard to switch back and forth between stun and jump modes, that'd be awesome.

But as is, the scout needed something to let him stand up to heavies and the likes. And being able to stun ubers is a new, special ability that I think the scout deserves. Most other frontline classes have some way to deal with ubers.

I just say that we should trust Valve. They've probably put a lot of thought into this. I'm sure it will be a great addition to the game.

And I say that there should be more unique, quirky weapons. I love the flare gun and sandvich and Blutsauger and the likes.

Hm. Two things:

1. I wonder if the baseball is "shootable" like the demo pipes/stickies. If a heavy sees it coming at him, can he shoot it?

2. Can the scout use the baseball to stun sentry guns?

I have a feeling that it is a taunt kill and so will require some setup. So trying to take out a sentry with it would be like trying to kill a sentry with the pyro or heavy taunt.

Probably not, it wouldn't make much sense, not even in the crazy world of TF2.

This is not an instant kill, Bob. I don't think it will have a taunt kill then. By the way, Heavies can't take out buildings with their taunt, only pyros can. However you can snipe the engi if you can approach him from a save location. :D

Question is, do we loose Double jump as soon as we equipe it or only if we hold it in our hands? If it's the first option, I'm going to stick to the normal Bat... I will not give up my mobility for a long range stun. (Baseball snipers, anyone?)

Also, I don't think the baseball is going to be a secondary right mouse click ability. It's going to be like L4D's Tank concrete throw, just as a taunt. It looks to me like the Scout is going to get a new taunt, seeing as he got a new stance when wielding the heavy Sandman (This bat is so heavy, the scout needs to wield it with both hands. As you can see on the three pictures, he also swings it with both hands.).

OK if Ronnie Thompson can accidentally hit a baseball through the attic window, hit a ray machine and make him, Russ, Amie, and Nick tiny sized i am pretty sure a scout that had an idea what he was doing could easly stun a SG... I'm just saying...

hmmm. im not 100% impressed but its still cool. what would be good is if you could hit rockets/nades back
and also being able to stun uber people sort of removes the "no one can do jack to you" point of an uber

Yeah I don't know if I'd give up double jumping for stun. But being able to bonk a crit rocket back at a soldier? Sign me up

This is just what I hoped for :D At least close to what I hoped for...I don't like the fact that this weapon can stun ubers, that will make them kinda useless.

ya thats the only thing im worried bout aswell. i wonder if it will do any damage on contact like the flare gun, im sure it will.

I think everyone upset about this new weapon being able to stun ubers is looking at this the wrong way.

The scout, as is, really isn't as useful in most situations as other classes. Nor does he have any specialty beyond running.

Specialties like lingering fire damage, sappers, long range precision, etc. The scout is great for capturing flags, sure, but that's only one game mode.

Now, especially after giving up the right to a double jump, I say being able to stop ubers would be the kind of class feature boost the scout needed. He's still weak and small, the stun might not last more than a few moments, or he can easily just -miss- the uber'd target, but he has the ability to counteract an uber for the team just like spies can counter buildings and medics counter fire and damage and the likes.

It won't make ubers useless. That's just a silly conclusion. There usually aren't too many scouts per map as is and not all of them will have this weapon or live to stun the uber or...even be around. Might be on the other side of the map.

Sure it might suck to get your uber countered, but it also sucks having an uber rush in and ruin all your stuff. Now there's at least a small chance for a counterattack.

I mean, in comparison, it's not even all that scary. Not like the flare gun that can ignite you from across the map, or the ubersaw that fills a medic's uber in just four hits, or the sandvich that can bring a heavy down from one hit point all the way to full health with no outside help.. A little stun isn't all that bad now is it?

At least, that's how I see it.

P.S. Also, the medic could just let go and uber a different target.

rofls thats gonna be hilarious and REALLY annoying at the same time xD medics should be able to make the stun time less (like halve it) just so they are'nt wasteing they're time healing that soldier
