Well, ive lost hope in Creative, so theyre outta the picture now, not to mention that I dunno where my box that has the necessary software is. So any suggestions for sound card would be great. Im definitely not gonna spend over $75 (like I did for my Creative card which isnt worth much now). If there is a card that is worth a lil over $50, I may consider it, but I really wanna keep the cost down.

I would highly suggest the Asus Xonar series... others will disagree and say the quality is not as good as the creative X-Fi cards, and that the 3d effects (EAX) are not up to par with creative. While that may not be true, I love the card since it has a full array of Dolby Technologies... including Dolby Digital Live (5.1 sound to a receiver over a single digital coax or optical cable) Dolby Headphone (simulated surround sound through a pair of stereo headphones... works really well) Dolby Virtual Theater (simulated 5.1 sound through a pair of stereo speakers.... ehh I wasnt impressed) and Dolby Pro Logic IIx (upmixing a stereo signal for playback through 5.1 or 7.1 speakers systems). If you dont need any special features, or if you dont care too much about sound quality (and most people wont really be able to tell) then if you have onboard sound I would probably stick with that.

For that price range, stick with onboard till you get a coupe hundred. If you don't like Creative but still want awesome sound quality:

It uses the X-fi chipset, but it is Azunetech's own design. It sounds better than any of Creatives designs, but use lose most of the performance gains and feature set of the X-fi. In fact, if you are good with a soldering iron, it is quite easy to "upgrade" an X-fi to match the Prelude in SQ.
thanx for the feedback, but a sound card that costs as much as a decent video card def isnt worth getting. i can get a decent sound card for less than $50. right now i gotta deal w/ no sound (which is going on for a week now & its tickin me off, thats why you havent seen me in the servers @ all).
