I think it would be awesome if Valve released an update (optional) where the Day of Defeat engine would turn from the hl2 engine into the Left 4 Dead engine, the animations would be amazing!, They would have to put a few edits to it though, such as the addition to prone. BUt would be awesome :)
Btw, i dont mean like zombies, and l4d weapons etc... just the engine.

if they did that...it wouldnt be an update...but a new game altogether....

L4D runs on the HL2 (source) engine, just a bit of tweaking that makes it look more different than other source games. Now, making look like L4D would be a downer because it would probably beef up the game's required specs.

yup its the same engines just different specs they used to make L4D lol. but good idea ntl

As games get better, of course the specs get better, and we need to transition.

why? Counter strike source has not even been updated to the orange box engine (unlike DOD:S. TF2. etc) and its still a top selling game. how do you think people will react when the gameplay of DOD changes again? when the OB engine update hit, alot of people lost interest in DOD, because they felt it hurts the gameplay.

Why? Do we want to stay put with modern graphics? Sure to us they are fantastic, but 10 years later when its hard to tell whats real and whats not, you will look back at today's graphics and think, wow that was rubbish, to be honest Day of Defeat aint the nicest looking graphics-wise game around...

but updating day of defeat source, which is a few years old, AGAIN, when it was recently updated, would just be a waste. not everyone plays games just for good graphics. as a matter of fact, most of these games with great graphics are not even that great. id rather take gameplay over better graphics.

I meant as a new game... based on Day of Defeat. But with like crysis graphics. And better gameplay, and i prefer neither, a good mix of both is the best.

and what good will that do? i think Day of defeat source, as it is right now, is perfect. but if you dont like it because of its graphics, you could go out and buy a more up-to-date FPS that probably has less Multiplayer servers, costs about 50 bucks, and you wont have as much freedom as a source based engine has.

if you have COD5, why would you want to update DOD?

A new game , Day of Defeat setting, as in ww2, day of defeat type maps, but with better graphics than cod 5, graphics like Crysis. Also with PhysX in, that would be amazing.

Day of Defeat Source is, unfortunately, a dying game. The OrangeBox update may have helped a but, but ultimately, the funeral is coming. Another update, regardless of what it did, wouldn't change that.

That said, I think that sucks. I love the game, and would kill for a "DOD 2", or whatever..... but only time (valve time mind you, so... many many many many years) will tell.

Totally agree ;)

gameplay > graphics
DOD Graphics look fine, increasing the req will most probably decrease the player base rather than increase it. not everyone that plays dod has a high end machine to run the high end graphics.
