Sapphire Radeon HD 4850 Video Card (512MB, PCI Express 2.0 x16, Dual DVI, HDMI)

or

XFX GeForce 9800 GT Video Card (512MB, PCI-Express 2.0 x16)

Radeon 4850 vs GeForce 9800GT? Let me put it this way.

How about putting it a more eGO forum friendly way? -- Ace

my personal opinion would be the 9500 GT. it is $30 cheaper than the 4850, the memory clock is 200 MHz slower and the core clock is 25 MHz slower, which is not that big of a difference, plus you are getting free CoD 4 and CoD WaW. so you are pretty much paying $10 bucks for the card. $110 - $100 for games.

Panzer, please realize that memory/core clocks mean nothing when you're comparing apples and oranges. There's ROPs, TMUs, shaders, stream processors, etc, that make the difference.

You will get much better performance with the 4850.

Good point

I like nvidia but the 4850 is one of the top cards that Ati makes. The 9800 GT is not a powerful card, nor was it meant to be anything special (Its the lowest grade 9800 series card, and its not different then the 8800 GT). Its really more of a mainstream gamer card. Back to the 4850, its more powerful, but one downside is that Ati's driver support is not close to what nvidia's is.

I've gotta disagree. Nvidia keeps releasing new drivers every other day (it seems like -.-) to fix something they broke, or to release their "big bang" drivers which always seem to fizzle out like a sparkler on the 4th of July...

I'd go with the 4850, just because Nvidia is getting really annoying with all their rebranding and driver issues, plus the build quality on Sapphire cards are amazing ^^

PS> When Gooda gives a suggestion, just take it and run, his advice (so far ;)) seems perfect everytime!

The HD 4850 is on the 9800 GTX+ level, 9800 GT gets blown away. Read the benchmarks.

This is no battle.

yea i love my 4850! its a lot better than a 9800gt.

p.s. Go with gooda on this one. his reccomendations are on the dot everytime. hes a pc genius.i wish my knowledge was as amazing as his!

Just a warning guys, I'm wrong plenty of times. Not so much on this forum as the questions aren't as complicated/confusing as others, but I'm by no means a genius.

If you want to learn (believe me, you'll learn a lot), go to www.overclock.net and read other posts. That's how I learned everything I know.

:D Thanks for making me feel awesome though.

EDIT: Aww, my comparison blurb was edited out :(

I am a total nvidia fan but I've got to say that the 4850 wins hands down. The 9800 GT is way weaker. I believe my 8800 GT can even beat it.

You may have to eat your words GCrusader. The 8800GT and most of the 9800GTs out there are exactly the same :D Nvidia rebranding FTL.

I'd normally say nividia, but Ati's are generally a better bargain, and if your going for a Nvidia graphics card, I would reccomend something from the Gtx 200 series instead of a 9800 GT.
