Why Do we skip the E ( Grading System)

i only compared it to two countries Me Usa California + Croatia.
Why is our grade system like this.
America is ABCDF..... why do we skip the E?
Croatia is 12345...1 lowest 5 highest

in highschool they dont skip the E, and it goes ABCDE

Im in MD, only time i got an 'E' was in elementary school, we get Fs now in highschool

im in maryland too, but i got it the opposite way

My brother is still in middle school... they still use the E's

First of all, I am pretty sure MD is the only state that uses E's.... but i think it may also be county to county... Montgomery county here... you?

My guess is 90% of America uses ABCDF - I've lived in a lot of states and been to a lot of schools, and every single one used ABCDF. Likely because, as has been stated, they used to use "E" as an "Excellent" - and I'm sure they adopted the system before everything was printed out. Way too easy to turn an F into an E.

yeh, we use F here in VA, but my cousins in Mayland use E. Elementary schools use O, G, S, and N.

i dont really like it, but the county im in also uses B+'s (90-94%), C+'s (80-84%), and D+'s (70-74%). dunno if anyone else uses it though.

Hmmmm, my school and all 7 other schools I've been to ALL use ABCDF, no E. Also, APs and honors are weighted the same, (5.0) and I've never heard of anybody making a 7 point scale where 90-94 or 90-93 are B+'s. It's always 100-90 range is A (+/-), 90-80 range is B... and so on. Some teachers break down the +/-s in a different way (for example, some teachers do 90-92 A-, some do 90-93 A-, some do 90-94 A-), but each letter is a 10 point spread.
