My Logitech G5 is now dead. I only had it for 6 months, and it decides to die on me. Why. Why now?

It was perfect until it decides to break today. I had the latest drivers/firmware for it, and it was used on a func 1030 mouse-pad. The mouse's lasers were not even dirty at all. Now I am stuck with one of the old Microsoft optical mice with 800 or 1000 DPI..I forgot.

But this thread isn't only about me talking about my dead G5. I need suggestions for a new mouse. And no, I am not buying another Logitech G5 or Logitech mice. Any suggestions for my new gaming mouse?

I was thinking about getting the Razer Deathadder..located here: http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2823951&CatId=539

My budget is around $60-70 CAD, which is around $48-56 USD. Give me some suggestions please. :)

I would just get another G5 they are GREAT and the other Logitech ones have unnecessary features. The Razer DeathAdder is a great mouse.

I just got a razer deathadder and it's a fantastic mouse. Has lots of good features in a very streamlined, elegant, and well thought out package.

Just as a side note, a friend of mine described the Lachesis as being like "firmly gripping a sea urchin".

Meh for razer
Buy a nice G9, you can find em on ebay for ~50 USD
Won't regret it, it takes a few days to get used to but after you do.... IT'S OVER 9000!

guys he said he doesn't want another Logitech mouse, so let's get him another brand instead of suggesting Logitech mice!! (though i know they're brilliant)

the only other manufacturer I'd consider is as everyone else has suggested, Razer. With your budget, I'd go with either the DeathAdder or the DiamondBack, the DeathAdder has a slightly better grip, but the DiamondBack has 2000dpi as opposed to DeathAdder's 1800! whichever u prefer:D

I'm a Logitech fan myself, so they are really the only mice I know for gaming mice. I'm curious as to how your G5 simply broke? How'd it break? Logitech generally builds fairly durable mice (I have an mx518 that's still going strong after 4ish years if I remember right, and I put it through hell), so I'm not sure how a G5 which just up and die.

I'v got the G5 and don't like it. I find when uing left button alot, the mouse wheel gets hit and changes my weapon alot (not good for DOD). Im looking for another mouse as well....

I am not exactly sure, but the cord has been dangling behind my desk for a while, and I also used a terrible mousepad before I got a func 1030 mousepad, which is even worse. The cord of the G5 isn't straightened anymore, it's all bendy and when I tried to straighten it, it makes an annoying knot. Is it possible to RMA it without a receipt?

Well, if I remember correctly, they have a 2 or 3 year limited warranty. It's something that you would want to call Support/Warranty Division for. I'll see if I can find you the phone number quick.

Edit: This appears to be the only number they have listed, Canada included: +16464543200

I had the same thing happen to my g5, luckily the knot was pretty close to the mouse itself & I took it apart, cut the bad section of the cord out & put it back together. It was a pretty easy fix & can be done w/a phillips-head, knife (or wire stripper) and a little electrical tape.

For a new mouse though, I feel obligated to suggest the Razer lachesis. It is a 10-20 above your price range, but its really a fantastic mouse & works well for both right & left hand use.

Well, I have a Microsoft/Razer Habu.

It's totally like a Razer mouse, except they say it's by Microsoft, and it says "Microsoft" on the mouse. This was pretty cheap, and is good.

You can even find this from Razer's website, so yeah. Screw Microsoft, this is totally a Razer ;D

i would say to get another g5 i have one and have been using it for well over a year now and it works fine. i've beaten the heck out of the thing and it's still going. since you don't want logitech which i do suggest (they are the only mice i've ever used) i would say go with a razer they are one of the only comparable brands out there.

I have never RMA'd an item before..But before I make my final decision to replace the G5 with a Razer mouse, what exactly do I need to have in order to be replaced? A receipt?

Is it possible without a receipt? Can someone explain the process of RMAing a mouse with Logitech so I don't screw it up on my first attempt?

check out their returning policy on their site. most likely need a reciept depending where you got it you might be able to get a copy of your receipt.
