Spring training games at least. Wish I could have headed out to Arizona for a long weekend of baseball and get away from the cold again. Such a fun time. Wow am I a happy camper right now. Add in the World Baseball Classic and WOO HOO! Bonk. Kinda fitting the scout update came out last night.
Sorry if this type of thread is frowned upon, but I've seen some decent conversations where people can talk about sports and not get all fanboy or "omg my rules your team stinks" stuff.
So playoff picks? What teams do you think have really done well this off season, what teams got worse? Player you expect a break out year from?
Let me preface my stuff by saying I'm a Cubs fan. A hardcore Cubs fan, but I'm a baseball fan over all and just love the game.
I honestly expect Lincecum to go nuts this year. Something tells me CC is going to under perform with the Yanks. There's a whole cloud over that clubhouse right now and he's in a much tougher division than he was with the AL and NL central.
Most improved team IMO is the Dodgers. All they need to do is get Manny signed. They're pitching is still a little suspect but the infield is just looking strong. I expect them to easily walk away with the NL West which shouldn't be that hard.
The Cubs are going to clinch the division this year easily. The Brewers and Cards really didn't do anything to get better. If anything, both of those teams are looking weaker on paper. I just want to see ONE post season win from the Cubs, hehe. I'll be happy with that after the last two years.
We're going to get the wild card out of the NL East. I'm picking the Mets to have a great season and take the division with the Phils taking the Wild Card. Hate to say it, but I'm also expecting the Phils to get hot at the end of the season and roll through the playoffs again. That team is just built for that 5 game and 7 game series.
AL west is easily the Angels to lose. It is pretty cool that Griffey signed back with the M's for what is most likely his farewell season. If you're in the North West and like baseball, you owe it to yourself to get to the ball park and see him play. If the M's are in your city, get out to a game to watch Griffey.
Is it just me or is the AL Central pretty boring. Sure you have 4 teams that could all win the division, but none of them are really great teams. Whoever takes that division won't have more than 85 wins and I'm picking the Twins to be that team this season. It's really a toss up though.
The AL East. Ug. Ok. Red Sox division. Yankees Wild Card. Rays play well but fall short. I'm not really a fan of the AL East or the AL in general though so i'll just leave it at that.
