Sound Card Issue

So, I've had a Soundblaster X-FI Platinum. I've had it for just over 4 years. Every once and awhile, I'll have an issue where the mic will go out and won't work. Well, I got ticked off the other day and uninstalled XP to go with a fresh install of everything. Now I can't get my mic on my Logitech head set to work at all. The speakers work just fine, and I have a mic that came with my Ice Mat head set... it's crappy but it actually works. I know the Logitech headset I have works just fine because I tried it out on my Vista laptop. I have the latest drivers, I have everything changed to see my sound card as the default recording device. Any chance anyone has one of the X-fi cards out there and has had the same problem? If so, know a fix for this? I've googled for hours and haven't found a thing on how to fix it.

These damn Xfi cards are just a damn screw up since they left the factory. I've seen that everyone who has had the PCI version has had the same mic error, but no one knows how to fix it. Everyone else was experiencing crackling and poping in the speakers, which I got fixed just today. They just seem to recently get these problems fixed with the PCI-E series...

Well i do have the same problem as you with the XFi fatality edition card, but i did find a workaround

I bought a usb headset!

Not what you wanted to read, but always leave this option open :/

i have a audigy 2 platinum pro and i have a similar problem but also i have the drivers for the cards installed but when i start up the computer i get a thing saying it wants to search for drivers.

How well does your system run with the usb headset? Because the great thing with the X-FI is that they have a built in CPU, which means they don't rely on Motherboards CPU to do much, and takes stress off of it. Correct me if I'm wrong, but that means that by using the usb you would by pass the Sound cards CPU, and make it rely on the USB for transmitting to the headset.

In brighter news, I have all my parts for my new computer... minus the damn Power supply... figured my 500W would be big enough to run it... but sadly no...

Well with my current and previous rigs, i never noticed any drop in fps in games, and the sound quality (from the mic) according to others is actually excellent :\

So idk what to tell you, other than maybe start annoying creative about it

Previous rig had an athlon x2 4400+, current rig has a q6600, in both no difference in gameplay ^^

That's the thing, Creative has been bugged about this many times. Their solution was to release the Titanium edition cards. I was reading, and technically the card I have shouldn't be a XFI because of the chips they use on it. So... blah... I'm running a AMD 3200+ atm.... but I'm about to up grade to a I7 which is going to be awesome....

Open the volume control panel and check to make sure what ever app you are using is using the correct input. I know most X-fi's come with at least two and the default to line-in and not Mic 1. Also, those Ice Mat Mic have decent sound quality but they are fairly fragile. Check to make sure the wire hasn't come lose from the element. After all of that, check to make sure you have the Mic volume at an adequate level in the volume control panel.

I've had all of that done before you recommended it Hyperion, there's something really odd about my mic for my Logitech headset mic not to work, but my Icemat one does.. even though my Logitech works on another computer... :S
