ok so today i plugged in a new headset to try it out and the mic didnt work so i went to my old headset and when i tried talking in game no one could hear me i made sure my mic wasn't on mute and it wasn't and then i made sure the volume for it wasnt muted it wasnt and i tried unplugging it and replugging it and it still didnt work can someone tell me if i need to do something with it or just get a new headset

Is Mic Boost on the desktop turned on, not ingame but on the desktop?
Do you have a supplementary sound card program? Like I have Realtek HD Audio Manager. If so make sure everything is turned up in there.
Is it in the rear microphone jacks? Try moving it to the other jacks.

singularity covered almost everything, the only additional thing i would add would be to check the headset cable for any cuts. If none of the above work, try re-patching your sound drivers, and if that doesn't work, the cable may have snapped internally (my guitar cable did that recently, took me forever and a day to figure it out)
