I'm sure there have been tons of threads like this but I'm building a new system in which money is no option (ok so money is always an option so under $5k -$6k) I don't want an Alienware because I can do better then that building my own system. Cooling will be Peltier (aka ThermoElectricCell) assisted liquid cooling and I have already worked those details out. I had considered using some of the parts from my current computer as they are not that old. what build you guys suggest.
Current system
CPU: intel Q6600 g0 @ 3.2GHz (from 2.4GHz)
Memory: 4x, 1 gig each Patriot DDR2 PC9600 @800mhz (<-I will explain why this is so low)
MoBo: EVGA nforce 680i A1 revision
Graphics: XFX 8800gtx @ stock w/ stock cooling
HDD: 2x, Western Digital Caviar 500gig each
Power Supply: ThermalTake tough power 1000watt
CPU cooler: CoolIt Freezone (currently as 'jerry rigged' as it can be after a pump replacement)
Case: ThermalTake Armor
Keyboard: saitek eclipse (this thing has seen better days)
Mouse and monitor: both are here to stay logitech mx518 and 22in AOC LCD
Here is the deal I realize that my current system is pretty darn good and will play most games no problem but I'm kind of fed up with it for the following reasons:
Memory- has to run at 2.3v but my Mobo only supports up to 2.1v before it fries the memory controller. I currently have 2 sticks in because my computer wont post with 4 unless I clock the sticks down and, overvolt my MCP a bit. Even so the Computer has problems posting with 4 sticks anyways so I usually end up never shutting my computer down (especially now that I have final projects for school to complete and cant afford the down time)
MoBo- wont post because of memory (as stated above) but has so many other problems. EVGA tech support is awesome but I don't want to have to keep RMAing the thing.
Case- completely my fault for getting a full tower but this thing is HUGE and heavy, taking it to LANs is a pain butt but is doable. Not too happy with the case, but a case is a case really.
Cpu cooling- while my current unit works great but it is RIGGED and will probably fall apart spewing fluid everywhere eventually. Its also just barely powerful enough to cool my CPU at 3.2 under full load any higher clocks and my system overheats after 30mins or so.
You guys think I should just swap the ram and upgrade the graphics/processor in my current system or buy a new system. If you answer is buy a new system post the parts you suggest. If not then give me some feed back as to why.
P.S. JV what do you think about this because in the end it will cost just as much as the cooling setup you suggested and this is peltier (ThermoElectricCell) cooled http://www.coolitsystems.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=43&Itemid=5 or this one http://www.coolitsystems.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=3&Itemid=5 in my experiance CoolIt has made some good stuff and this is their top of the line and comes with pump and blocks; granted its not as fun to buy stuff pre assembled but I would probably swap out the blocks on these.
