I just build my new computer and want to go onto the internet. But the problem is i dont know how :(
do i have to create a new connection or what? anyone have a guide or can tell me what to do?

yes, create a new connection...

What type of connection do you have? Cable (always on, no password needed)

also, did you have the network "on' and "plugged into" your nic card when you was installing XP?

I tryed creating a new connection but it asks me for my user name and password and thats were i get confused
and no i didnt have a cable plugged in when i was installing XP is that bad?

alright try this

http://compnetworking.about.com/od/windowsxpnetworking/l/aa121402a.htm

select set up connection manually. then select broadband. if you dont use a password ans username then select "broadband that is always on". if you do then select the opposite.

that should do it.

and it does not matter whether or not you have the ethernet cable plugged in during xp installation. just as long as you have it plugged in now is all that matters.

I did that already but it still wont connect :(
anyone else have any problems connecting to the internet with a new computer?

Not me i just got a new mobo and it's fine, New mobo sound card and video cards :O

Normally you have drivers for your mobo for it to work.
Did you install everything on your driver cd for the mobo?

Like others have said...make sure you have the drivers for your nic card installed.

Does your nic card show up in your hardware profile?
