Is this rude?

Anyone else think it is rude when you are driving and your passenger talks on their cell phone the entire ride?

Well kinda, I wouldnt mind if its important. But if it was talking to a friend i would be sadden and throw the cell phone out the window.

Yeah...well it's at least annoying. Every time I go out and my roommate rides with me he turns down the volume on MY MUSIC!?!? and calls his girlfriend that lives....3K MILES away and has the same conversation he has EVERYDAY! lol...so annoying!

Really kind of a situational thing. It depends who their talking to, how important it is, if it's relevant to a future plan we may have, how long the drive is, how long the call is, if there was a preceding conversation before the call, if you need information that is not being given, etc. It's not just a simple, "yes, it's rude" or "no, it's not" type of thing.

well i guess to explain more, my girlfriend got a voicemail from her step bro (whom she hasnt talked to) then calls him back to catch up on things, and talks for about 20 minute drive, nothing really important

If that were the case, I wouldn't find it that rude. It's her brother who she hasn't spoken with for a long while (I'm assuming it's been some time). And I don't find 20 minutes to be that big of a deal honestly, especially if she's catching up with someone. If anything, it would have probably been appropriate for her to ask if you minded first, but it would have then been appropriate for you to say that you don't. That's my opinion anyway.

Uh... I don't drive others. I'd highly recommend it, because then you don't have to worry about them irritating you. This method of mine is quite convenient actually, and it allows me to play my music as loud as I wish it to.

But from a 3rd person view, it does seem rude, in particular when they turn down your music to make the same phone call they make everyday.

The real trick folks, is to make sure your radio is turned up at about 60%.. Then, if their phone DOES ring, you turn it up to around the 70%ish mark.. They'll get the idea real fast. Works on my girlfriend whenever she's in the car. Generally then it's around 30-40%, but whenever she gets increasingly annoying, it hits 80% VERY fast.
