flare gun vs shotgun

I did not know about the lack of airblast, but then again, I didn't have this game then. What a weird world map it would be without the air blast.

I use the original setting for the pyro. Flamethrower, Shotgun, Fire Axe. I just switch the Shotgun and Flare Gun from time to time depending on what i feel like doing.

Im oldschool pyro. completely default setup.. i used the backburner when it first came out, but when they removed the hp bonus it became useless for my play style. i dont melee much except when im out of ammo and i need to attack more... often on sentrys. so thats why i use the fire axe not axetinguisher. shotty >>>>> flaregun cause its helpful in all sorts of situations, not just specific ones like flaregun. but as repeated over and over ill flog the horse once myself, youll have to play and find out what suits your style best.

I came up with a very exert equation
Flamethrower+FlareGun+Axetinguisher=Pwnage ;P

For very linear maps, the original Flamethrower and its compression blast ends up being very useful. For other less structured maps, however, Backburner is insanely effective if you stalk and ambush correctly.

There's also no reason not to use the Axetinguisher and the Flare Gun completely pales in overall usefulness when compared to the shotgun.

hahahahaha, i loved that pyro video. thanks very much to frisky dingo for bringing it up, and captain calle for the link. fitting music for such hilarious hijinks. the heavy's response when he realized he was about to get taunt killed was great, not to metion compression-blasting scouts into a giant chasm :D

Flamethrower, Shotgun, Axestinguisher.

Flamethrower cause of the compression blast. Much more useful than any behind-the-back only crit.

Shotgun because of all the other pyros in the world. And it's good for goading all those soldiers to attack you from a distance. Then you just deflect their rockets back. Flare guns are only good for annoying people.

Axestinguisher because heavies take forever to burn. Plus it works great with two pyros working together.

Also, once you get good with the shotgun, you've got a head start on playing an engineer, soldier and scout.

Flamethrower > Backburner for cooperative team play, Pushes back ubers / explosives / Baseballs The crit mechanic

Shotgun > Flare gun I use the flare gun for fun and I've found ways to use it effectively and my new pyro style as evolved around its use. However i could defiantly be a more destructive pyro using the shottie. The flare gun is more tactical, simply put, you are using it in expectancy of reactions from the other players. Such as snipers being less able to snipe, scout running for health, etc. Being as such is like being more supportive.

Axtinguisher = Fire axe I use axtinguishing for pretty much only heavies. Fire axe doesnt have to be on fire so yeah

This is all made not for death match turtling CTF (i.e. Not 2Fort)

I play my Pyro as a more supportive roll. So to sum up the flare gun is a weapon to be used in a supportive matter.

Flamethrower, Shotgun, Axtinguisher.

Nothing better than shotgun a spy jumping off the edge of A on Blackmesa while he's on fire. :D
Or igniting someone, airblast up, then Axtinguish them. :D

I use flame thrower, shotty, and axtinguisher.

I use the flamethrower to blow back ubers, and protect sentrys from stickies and rockets. I use the shotty because the flare gun is a joke...at least it was before they increased the damage. I use the axtinguisher because its free crits.

Exactly what I would of said.
