Server suggestion

I find that on at least our Dustbowl server, there's a lot of team inbalance, and voting for a scramble often fails.

Why don't we have the server reload the map more often?

It might not fix it all the time, but it will scramble them at least a little!

I'm not an official answerer, but let me take a crack at it:

A map rotation is the moment where most people take the opportunity to leave for another server. We want to keep people around, having fun, for as long as possible. So we try to reduce map changes.

Also, most of our servers are 24 hour map servers; having those "map switching" back to the same map over and over again get old, real fast.

The team balancer should be kicking in, but, yeah, I know, it's a bit annoying to be stuck with the "losing team," but I just take that as motivation to play my best and eventually squish the other team.

Here's some pessimism: they type of people who MUST be on the winning side will quit and rejoin, go to spec, and otherwise try to avoid teamswitching. 'Course, if an admin catches them doing that, they're asked to stop; it ruins the game balance. But in general, trying to force people to be nice and teamswitch to the "losing team" rarely works :D

But there's a plus side: in TF2, the "losing side" is usually losing because there's 3-5 lone wolfs piddlefarting around the server on your side, not supporting the team. Now, these people also generally hate being rolled, EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE NOT CONTRIBUTING. So what happens? One or two rolls, they leave, and we pull the one-armed-player-bandit to get a new player.

I've been on dustbowl, rolled 4-5 times, the team finally decides that they can't "vote themselves" a win, but actually have to produce it themselves, and we suddenly roll the other side 2-3 times, because they got complacent :D

Ive thought of ways to fix this too, I dont think Ive posted it but, making the % lower for the vote to pass would make it better, cause alot of the time all the people that are on the stacked team say no and it screws up the vote.

But that would also work

If I'm not mistaken in order for the vote to pass, it needs 51% of the vote which makes sense because its silly to have a minority of people still win a vote. I agree with Auto completely though. If the vote fails and your team is still getting rolled, those who are frustrated will leave, making an opening for potentially better players and/or stealing a player from the other team.
Alternatively, take it upon yourself to guide the team or offer verbal support. Its proven that teams that talk together, win together. Asess the battle situation and maybe try a different class than you may like playing, but one that better suits the battle needs of your team. The power of persuasion and teamwork is a powerful one.

A thought. I have been on both sides of the coin here, and more often then not I have seen the team that is getting tromped will suddenly get tired of it and then just come back and really take control and completly steam roll the other team for a round or two.
A bit of a side note I actually like being on the team that is losing because when we win there is a bit of pride because we did well against a "better team":D

thought it was 60, but I am not sure, that is the best solution though,

and we tried lowering those server rotations once, was a game about 30-60 min, but then everyone who showed some skill would be recognized and all skilled players would join that team causing even more unbalancing.

Guess we go for the voting.

To my knowledge it is currently set at 60%. The reason for this is that many people enjoy fighting back when that happens and like the challenge it brings.

It has, however, been discussed about lowering to 55% but not lower.

I have suggested that if there are any eGO members that are on the top of the leader boards to switch to the loosing team just to balance the game out a bit more and to keep people in the servers instead of making them rage quit. Ive also suggested that they speak to any spectators and ask them to join or kindly leave that way we have a somewhat balanced team. Other than that, i would agree in saying to switch the vote scramble to 51% so that people can calm down and stay in the server longer, just my opinion.

i think a real fix would be some sort of point balancing system, there are plenty of times where there might be hundreds maybe even thousands of points difference between one team and the other. Make it so auto balance takes into account the amount of points a player has with respect to the other team...

so instead of having: RED:2908 total player points BLU: 632, make the system even it out more...
