My cards running to hot!

Okay so last night my pc got to 75 only one of them 7900GT cards, I've got my case open today and a big box fan next to the pc

right now it's 55, Now should i get a a new psu 650Watt with a 120 Fan.

I want to get a new psu and hd sata drives.

and my case door is off.

And my pc shut off once last night and i started it up again no beeps or anything

With case door on too.

Also cards are running in SLI
 
leaving it open is going to make the problem worse.

you need air circulation, it's not going to help when the case is completely open

he has a fan blowing into it so its not gonna make it worse he made a temporary solution tell he gets it fixed
 
Yeah, it's been like 2-3 hours and it has been at 55 didn't get higher.

Yeah i got a big fan next to it open case door, and it hasn't got past 55 even when i play CSS or left for dead.

I've got two side fans, and one back fan and the psu fan.
also one front fan too.

so 5 fans.

Check that the fan on the errant video card is still running. If it is, try removing the heatsink/fan assembly, clean the chip and heatsink of any thermal paste on there, reapply good thermal paste(a little goes a long way) and reassemble.

You can also try buying an aftermarket HSF for your card. It may also be that the card is not long for this world, and you might just need a new one. :)
 
Well i got a ac in my window again and lets hope it stays cold in here.

might help with pc too :P
 
Before I got a new case with 2 120mm fans and a few other fans I opened my case and put a box fan next too it as well :D

It worked fine.

I'd recommend getting new fans and getting maybe a cooling system (new case with all this in there)
 
Well since you have 7900gts im assuming youve had them for a while. Have you ever went to walmart and bought a can of compressed air and cleaned the heatsink around your videocard out? I have to do that quite frequently with my card because it runs so hot. That will help drop your temps a lot if its really dirty and clogged up in there.
 
Have you thought about upgrading your vga fan? After continuous use it will eventually break down the "stock" thermal grease the card came with from teh factory.

If you are going to keep the card I would highly suggest getting rid of the stock fan and upgrading to a better fan combined with arctic silver thermal paste. Zalman has some great aftermarket cooling solutions you should look into... Plus, very inexpensive.
 
Dust can be a HUGE heat upper, try and clean out the dust by opening up the case and using either a compressed air blaster or whatever else you can think of. (BE CAREFUL TO NOT INTRODUCE STATIC ELECTRICITY, OR YOUR COMPUTER WILL GET FRIED)

Other than that, try not to worry TOO much about a 75 degree temperature. Sure, it's really high, but nowadays components can withstand just about up to 100 degrees, but I wouldn't want to keep it that high if I could avoid it. :D Some extra fans should help, pick a few up, as they're like 10-20 bucks a pop.
 
If he was talkin about deg yes you are correct.. that would be no big deal.. however I would imagine he's talking about Celsius.. and that would be a little on the high side for that card/start to cook stuff.
 
Yes yes, I know, I was talking in Celsius as well. He mentioned a 75 Celsius, so I assumed that if I said degree, it would be understood as celsius as well. Sorry for the confusion!

Well, in my past experience, I've had and seen store bought (EW) computers with literally 1 fan and a crappy heat sink in it, run at 75 degrees for years, and never break. Your mileage may vary, but I've come to believe that things just don't melt at the temperatures they used to. :P
 
Agreed with batterytime. My GPU's run around 80C (Load) 24/7 (fan 100%) and have had no problems for over 6months with my current GPU and over 2 years with my old GPU. High temp is not something to horrible anymore.

yes, 75 C is quite hot. no where near hot enough to shut off your comp though. my cpu is set to shutoff at 150 C? i dont remember the bios settings but its at least double 75 celcius. as for video cards, its not irregular for crossfire/sli cards to reach 60-80 C during intense gaming. and for a 7000 series card left for dead is pretty intense.

Like previously stated, you need to clean, make sure all fans are properly running and so forth. if everything seems to be in proper mechanical order, re-apply new thermal grease, arctic silver is always a good choice. if that doesnt help then it may just be time for a new card. a single 9800gt or hd4850 are about double the price of a decent hsf replacement so go ahead and spend the money on something thats worth while instead of trying to make your old stuff last longer.
