It seems that maps with water on them are crashing compared to ones without it. I can play on dustbowl fine but not in 2fort, apparently somone figured out that if gibs touch the water it causes everyone to crash. That is why everyone is crashing at the same time.

I haven't tried this yet, but to prevent it put r_waterdrawrefraction 0
in console. Some way the gibs reflect in the water causes the game to crash.

Very nice...knew it seemed weird that some people reported heavy crashing, and others none, and other somewhere in between. Some people play on maps with no water, some with lots, some play on varied maps.

Also, weird that people would all crash at the same time. That makes me think it's some kind of serverside issue or some other bug that isn't just plain ol' instability...

And look, we now have a diagnosis that addresses all of those little oddities.

Brilliant!

It's true, a demoman just nailed a scout on 2fort underwater, my mates and I crashed. Damn.
Edit: The fix works, too. It makes my TF2 a tiny bit ugly... :(

Yeah, i'm pretty sure its the fix; just make sure to put r_waterdrawrefraction back to 1 when they patch it.

I have a feeling that if we've figured it out already, Valve is already working on a fix. I'd be looking for it today or tomorrow, unless it turns out this is a really serious issue that's gonna take hardcore debugging to fix.

Now that people can up stability with this console command, I'm curious to see how stable or unstable the multicore support really is. Maybe it's darn near perfect, but this bug is just causing crashes by itself.

Yet another reason to love Warpath, its does not have any water. That explains why I haven't crashed with the multicore enabled.

Nice find. I've been reading stories about crashes in the other thread. Hopefully Valve will fix this before my vacation ends.

Hehe, i see a lot of griefers exploding in console in the near future.
