Scary hax?

So, I had the misfortunte of playing on a non-eGO TF2 server yesterday at my friend's house. I found a guy who I was more sure of hacking than any other player I've ever played with in the history of forever and everything. I literally was throwing myself at this guy to compile evidence of hacking. I wasn't recording, but this was more for personal satisfaction of knowing he was hacking. I was playing spy, and I would meet this guy in a large, open area, fully cloaked and absolutely, 100% sure I was totally unseen. He, as heavy, would spin up the minigun, despite me being the only enemy around, and totally invisible. I would hide in unpredictable areas, corners, or at times just try to escape. Every time, his gun planted directly on me and had me dead in seconds. 95% of the time I was positive that I never had shimmered or shown any other sign of being a spy, or even being present at his location.

This happened several times, so even if he saw me once or twice, bad luck or bad spying does not explain every encounter. Afterwards, I found this video on youtube: [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gaWNQQZHx1Q[/ame] .

That video itself may or may not be legit, but it's enough evidence to me, combined with other videos, experience, and stories, that it's possible to hack through the cloak.

What are everyone's thoughts on this? Do you have experience with this, have you found/banned/accused/whatevered someone of or for doing this?

Ask an admin to spec and record a demo. It's pretty obvious enough whether it's coincidence or cheating from a view of the player.

What's the fun of killing a spy if you know where he is?

I get lots of joy in spyhunting myself, with my pistol, or just acute senses.

I don't get Hax. Why not just watch youtube videos of good players?

I love eGO because, while VAC may never detect that cheat, our admins will, and then Deja will eat the hacker.

Those are not bad since they're over the top and obvious. I'm more afraid of a subtle hack or a "good" hacker. Good as in he knows when to do it and when to not. I dont see the fun in hacking but people are still gonna do it.

Something like this gets tricky, because I know I'll personally fire rockets/grenades/whatevers down places where I know spies like to hide.

Then I get backstabbed T_T

This just ruins the game for others though. It looks like it puts a reticule over every enemy, and it also just happens to detect spies as the enemy.

No, because you probably fire places randomly where there aren't spies a lot. A person with this hack wouldn't randomly fire unless there actually was a spy there. It's really quite easy to pick out in spectating.

@ ODM - You're right, the subtle hacks are a lot more worrisome. I know if this had happened in eGO servers, I could have gotten an eGO in there to confirm that this guy was cheating very easily. That's just how obvious it was, and that's basically why I didn't bother on a non-eGO server; I don't know the admins, the policies, and simply I'm not going to be playing there once I get my computer.

And FreakingHell - Yeah, that is what it was like. This was NOT random fire when you think a spy is around...I'd leave NO clues as to being nearby, be fully cloaked and come in from an angle that was not directly in front of him, no enemies or gunfire around to make me shimmer, not by a longshot. THen he'd just turn, spin up his Natascha, and ratatatatatatadeadspy. I would never drop cloak, I'd be dead before it even ran out. Only time as a spy I've ever been dominated by a heavy. Every time I'd try to get behind the guy, he'd see me, while cloaked, and own my face. I couldn't literally get behind him without ever seeing him, because that was the only darn way I could do it to have him not see me, since cloak was useless. It's frustrating just to think about.

Hey! Now that you mention it, he was a sniper for a short while. And yeah, he got 2 1 shot body shot kills on me while I was totally cloaked, and one headshot kill. Tooooooooootal BS, and I don't throw accusations of hacking around lightly. But yeah, thanks for reminding me of that. He was playing all those classes spies love to see, but just owning me in every one of them, and always while I was disguised, cloaked, looking totally natural and blending, stalking, didn't matter. Every time he knew exactly where I was and took me out without a second of hesitation.

On the bright side, since there's very rarely a server that has no e, eG, or eGO in it for an extended period of time, I think people will get the idea that our servers are not the right ones to choose for blatant hacks like this. You'll get caught, banned, and have to go start being a punk lamer on another server.

Yeah i was a victim to this hack used by a sniper a long time ago. at least its pretty obvious when they use it. So we can lay the hammer down on them.

I have seen people use this but it I wasn't a spy. I was once getting killed by a soldier who always seemed to know where I was and he was killed me right as I was coming around a corner so that the second I hit a corner I would die as if the rocket was always on the way. the worst thing was he had an (eG) tag. I made a minor comment in chat and left it as that.

Of course I have seen lots of (e)s and (eG)s do suspicious stuff but I haven't played the game completely enough to know for sure. And sometimes their skill does come into play. So who really knows?

What I find annoying along with this is people who spec you when you are a spy just to see where you are hiding. This have happened multiple times with me. One time, I was dominating a guy on Dustbowl stage 1. I had backstabbed him at least 7-8 times in a row. So, the last time, after backstabbing him, I cloaked and ran towards the second point. I was still cloaked when he came around a corner, as a pyro, and instantly, he axed me to death. And I was cloaked. I then asked him how he knew where I was, he replied, "I spectated you". Then I asked why do something as cheap as that? He replied, "Because I thought you were hacking". Yup, a lame exuse for spectating me, only so he could get revenge.

I've been lucky in this regard. I've only run into a few hackers in my game career.

Some of you may remember about a week ago on Egypt there was this one speedhacking pyro. It was pretty damn obvious what he was doing. When a pyro zooming around faster than a scout kills you with his flamethrower, you can pretty easily tell who's hacking. The bad thing was that he was copying eGO member names. Most of the time born2kill was trying to figure out which krohn was the culprit. Of course, when he tried taking MY name, and I was on the other team...

Anyway, it was frustrating. But I took comfort in the fact that I was never dominated by him, because I still killed him plenty of times, speedhack or no. Kudos to born2kill for throwing down the hammer.

god you know...i heard about this a couple months ago on a pub server when a scout was doing this too me, i did'nt shimmer, i did'nt bump into anyone, nothing then suddonly scout runs up and designs a new face with his scattergun

this hack scares me...mainly because spys already have a rough time (2fort especially for me) weither we can catch it or not i dont like it :bored: heres hopeing that ValvE kills this before too meny people figure it out...

PS: and like people have said not only does it make spy impossible to play, it also makes finding other spys/just finding spys no fun at all...

EDIT: i have a idea, what if someone were to trick them into giveing the hack then tell ValvE whats going on? i dont think it would be too hard and hopefully ValvE would hammer this hack to a pulp
