Beware: FinallyFast.com

I haven't had much first had experience with this particular website, just the after effects.

Today, I was approached by a patron in my area who said he was having computer problems. I asked him to describe them and this is what he told me:

I came home from work and fired up my computer. After about 10 minutes, it restarts itself. I figured something updated like it always does, so I wait for it to finish restarting. After it gets to the login screen, it restarts again, this continues until I turn it off.

When asked what he had been doing lately, he said nothing out of the normal, but he did mention FinallyFast.com. This man is normally a careful internet user. He said he was having some problems with his computer being a little slow and he saw an advert for this website and said he'd try it out, which was his mistake. Whatever he got from that website to fix whatever computer problem he thought he had, installed a virus/trojan. I've just finished reformatting his computer and reinstalling windows.

Also, last week, I received a call from a friend of mine who had tried the a fore mentioned website. He gave it a shot and now his laptop isn't working, and that's not the bad news. I live in Kansas, I offered to fix his laptop. Here's the problem, he lives in Arizona. He is now going to have to pay some to work on it, whereas I would have done it for free.

Oh, and WOT has an addon for Firefox, I'd suggest getting it. It will stop you before you enter website deemed malicious or dangerous.

I figured I'd do something to warn people of this scam, seeing as it's on the tv. I'd recommend telling friends and family. Otherwise, have fun reinstalling Windows.

as a general rule of thumb
if it says "make your computer go faster, fix this, or that" i delete, close, or task manager and end process or task. 90 % of the time there is no quick fix when it comes to computers
I love when people come to me and say "my computer is so slow can you help". So i boot it up and there is like 20 programs running in the background and open IE and half the browser is toolbars.

They're getting closer to idiot proof, but not quite there yet. I always ask people why they have three toolbars, and they never seem to know...

I don't understand the toolbar craze. My Firefox only has the address bar + their default search box and that is it.

I never trusted FinallyFast.com the first time I saw their ads on TV. I knew it was all fake. A general rule to go by: if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

finallyfast.com even has a paid comercial they put on tv. I never did try it, I didnt like the way it sounded glad I didnt

They feed on the fact that a lot of people will believe anything that idiotbox tells them. "Well, it's on the TV, it must be legit."

Another solution that does the same thing as the firefox addon mentioned above is Chrome. It warns you before you visit any website that is known to have malicious code.

Edit: Chrome doesn't seem to say anything about finallyfast. Might have something to do with the website itself not hosting any malware.

a warning to some people watching that commercial. In the commercial it says it is for windows computers only, but if you watch closely, you will notice the few people using Macs....that should be a hint right there.

This is what surprises me the most. I mean, its a VIRUS that's being advertised on TV! How did this slip past the networks?

How can yall say this? The people at finallyfast.com are great! If youll watch the commercail over youll see that they managed to get a mac to go BSOD on them. I mean Im good with computers but I dont even think I could pull that one off, lol.

Macs will have their day. This website is offering a service, and the FCC has to let it through, no matter how crappy the service is. It's still a service, even if it's end product is malicious spyware.

The only way to truly speed up your computer or internet is to get better hardware, reinstall windows(format + reinstall works best), or to get a faster internet connection. Don't know why people try these kind of things.
